I have Thierry de Mortier racing his BT36 in 1999. Can't help beyond that though

Bryan, I thought I had seen the name from one of the ads you found in A/S for Ian yesterday.

This doesn't help much but perhaps some one else can!

John Hardesty drove a BT36 in F Libre in '74, and the add you found, 10-7-75 BT36 ex John Hardesty with racing services 2.0 alloy , ft200 , will split

It could be 3, 9 or 10.

It can't be 2, 5, 8, 11 or 12.

1, 4, 6 & 7 are unlikely but possible.

74 is the same year that Jose Arauyo was racing a BT36 in Atlantic.

The options are are slowly reducing!!

phdm, I have just had confirmation that this was BT36-20, the chassis that Christian Geoffroy now has, for how long Thierry de Mortier (thanks David!) owned the car I am not sure, -I am none the wiser as to its history.

Thierry De Mortier was racing the car in 1995. He still had it in 1999. He probably sold it in 2000.

I too have de Mortier in the car in 1999, but Geoffroy had it at Zolder the same year

Do you mean in the same race ?
De Mortier still had the BT36 in March 1999. I have a note of that. By the time he started racing the BT23 the BT36 had been sold. I thought it was in 2000 but it could be in 1999.

BT36-20, as we have no record of production of any more than 12 cars , is it possible that this car is not BT36-20 , but actually BT35-20 converted to BT36 specifications , from we know not what, F3 ???

phdm - no, not the same race. My note for de Mortier just says '1999', so it could mean no later than the March you mentioned. Can't remember specifically where I saw it (or of it). It was in Geoffroy's hands by Zolder, which IIRC was late August 1999

BT36-8 I have a tiny bit more on, last known owner I now have as Bob Howlings in 75(?). My thanks to Phil Barak for a very enjoyable half hour on the phone last night!!

That's certainly what it looks like in the photo. I'm sure I took a photo of the car so I'll be able to confirm that when I get them developed.

The BT29 and BT30 share the same engine cover. The BT29 has a fiberglass undertray (no side bulge) with the fuel cell behind the seat. The BT30 has fiberglass sidepods with fuel cells located inside. BT30 side pods are the same as BT36. Most BT35's had aluminum side tanks with fiberglass contoured ends, fore and aft.

David as Ted says, aluminium and very easy to dent but what lovely craftmanship shaped around the chassis rails like some of the earlier cars.

Spoke to Mike last night, and sadly David the answer is no. He did own a BT30 which is still in the UK.

The only remaining question I have on the BT36 story is who was John Tait who raced one in '77?

ISTR that John Tait who had the BT36 later raced in the British Saloon Car series with a Toyota. Was he an airline pilot or similar, vaguely rings a bell ??

I can confirm that John Tait was an airline pilot in the 1977 timeframe, when he owned/raced BT36#-1 in UK F/Libre series. I met him several times to see his BT36.

Reference the 1972 MRD letter on BT35's up to #52. My BT36-10 has an updated rollover bar with horizontal head rest barand support plate. I assume that is the new FIA reg. arcticle 297 that was required in 72. I am wondering if these BT35's (#48-#52)would be F3 cars req. FIA compliance?

Does anyone have confirmation that John Hardesty was racing BT36-10 in 1974 in Uk Libre series, a previous post suggested that John Hardesty may have raced BT36-#5 in 74.

David I have found the answer to what happened to BT36-2 that we talked about way, way back!

After John MacDonald it went to Manilla in 1973 to;-

David I think your versions sounds much more plausible, Leif's note to me may be wrong but I will have more details by November.

I know nothing of any of these drivers!
