Pity the link to the article didn't have an unbiased theme in it....

That aside - looks like the 'independent tribunal' has already delivered one of its key findings and it has been acted on.

No pushing here, was offered another significant gig and took it.

Fountain has taken a new CEO position with Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board.

A 3 year crack at the position with CAMS would be enough for anyone in the current environment.

When he was in on the show last year it was pretty obvious then that he was looking for a way out.
He'd had a gutfull of the politics and mean spirited nature of the sport.
So how many CEOs is that over the past 10 years or so?
Greg Swan, Peter Hansen, Ron Nethercote and now Graham Fountain, who did I forget?
Anyone else want to sip from the poisoned chalice?
How about you Steve?

Oh pushed. This is part of the repecussions of ructions within Victoria last few weeks almost certainly. Particularly when Fountain attempted to chair the investigation into himself. Get out quickly and minimise the damage to reputation at a guess.

Huh... quite a co-incidence considering his pre-CAMS job.

Hey, I don't really know the bloke well at all but in my dealings with him, Fountain was knowledgeable, affable, a good listener and seemed to have Australian motorsports best interests at heart. Despite being surrounded with plenty of good ole' boys with personal agenda's, vendettas and bloody mindedness which would wear anyone down.

I wish him well in his next career path and every success. As most fair minded people would.

Just as inpitlane says, the mean spirited nature of this sport is enough to do anyone's head in. As much as I love this sport, I do miss the summary justice dealt out to thugs, owner/operators and general loud mouths that was prevalent in the contact sports of my youth. It reformed 'character' in many instances and introduced balance, manners and courtesy.

Sadly missing in Motorsport.

The Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board (MFB) is pleased to announce today Graham Fountain has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer and Chief Officer of the Metropolitan Fire & Emergency Services Board.

The Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board (MFB) is pleased to announce today Graham Fountain has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer and Chief Officer of the Metropolitan Fire & Emergency Services Board, following an extensive executive search overseas and across Australia.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Graham to lead our team into what will be both a challenging and exciting time ahead for the MFB. It also speaks highly of the community standing of the MFB, that such a well credentialed field of applicants was attracted to the position,” said Adrian Nye Board President.

For the past three years Graham has been the CEO of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport. Graham’s background in emergency services is also quite extensive with over 20 years experience with the Country Fire Authority where he rose to the rank of Deputy Chief Officer.

In Graham’s role with the Confederation he has seen and implemented the best current practices in finance, planning and governance. These skills will be especially required as the MFB faces new challenges arising from the Royal Commission, the heightened community expectations of all emergency service providers, and the Board’s desire to undertake our business in different, more modern ways.

Graham has retained his interest in firefighting on a practical level through ongoing membership of the Edithvale CFA. And has also undertaken work assignments with the Victorian, Australian and UK Governments.

It was a key requirement of the Board that a person of exceptional management ability be appointed to continue the initiatives commenced by Ken Latta the current CEO and Chief Officer. Graham will build on this foundation and respect the work already done to maintain the MFB’s standing as a leading fire, emergency and community service organisation.

Graham will start with the MFB around 9 April 2010.

I have heard a whisper that a certain Car Club President, (CAMS affiliated no less); Grade One Clerk of Course, and former successful competitor is being encouraged (in some quarters) to consider applying for the role.

Sadly, it is also rumoured that in addition to his qualification noted in the above paragraph, his high level of success as a businessman will allegedly work against him.

Sources in the HR industry lead me to believe that instead of the traditional Seven P's * being a prerequisite for a successful CEO, CAMS current lack of liquidity has seen it have to create its own, cheaper version of the Seven P's, as outlined in the requisite essential qualities for their new CEO !

These are:
Position holders must portray the ability to prophesise, postulate, perambulate, procrastinate, and panic !

* The Seven P's - Prior preparation and planning prevents pi55 poor performance...

MFB chief quits amid allegations

MFB chief quits amid allegations

The head of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade has quit today following allegations of inappropriate behaviour made by a former employee.

MFB chief officer and CEO Graham Fountain tendered his resignation this morning, which was accepted by the president of the board, Neil Comrie.

It is understood the allegations were made by a young woman who wants her details to remain confidential.

The MFB said in a statement the board took "swift and decisive action" to investigate the matter as soon as it became aware of the allegations.

The statement did not contain details of what the allegations against Mr Fountain were.

An MFB spokesman said he could not reveal details of the allegations, but said police were not involved in the investigation.

"This matter has now been resolved to the satisfaction of the complainant and in accordance with the complainant's request for confidentiality no further details of this matter will be released," the statement said.

"As both parties to this situation have requested their privacy be respected, no further statement will be made by MFB."

The statement said deputy chief officer Shane Wright would fill in as acting CEO until a permanent appointment was made.

Mr Fountain was appointed to the role in February this year following an extensive international search.

He is a former CEO of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport, and previously worked for 20 years with the Country Fire Authority, where he rose to the rank of Deputy Chief Officer.

He has also undertaken work assignments with the Victorian, Australian and British governments.

Peter Marshall, the head of the United Firefighter's Union, said he knew nothing about the resignation.

"He's not one of our members, if he was I'd know about it," he said.
