Thanks for that, Jeremy. I think what may have happened was that someone said that the first round had been postponed and, presuming that at that time I wasn't aware of the planned 18/3/79 meeting, I marked down the 25/3/79 meeting as having been cancelled (presuming that this was round 1...! ) I really should have kept better notes but I'm learning as I go!

The query on the 1958-1962 seasons stand though! I've only got a handful of dates for these so if anyone can assist on those I'll be very grateful!

From my programmes, I can confirm that March 25th was described as "round 1" and April 13th "round 2".

I have at last got around to sorting my Motor Sport mags ready for disposal. The following may throw some light on the early years -

1958

May 3rd Silverstone production touring car race - 1st Jaguar 3.4

July 19th Silverstone touring car race - winner class d Austin A105, winner class f Riley 1.5

Aug 4th Brands saloon car race - 1st in class Austin A105

The above is taken from captions to Pictorial Round-up, no reports found.

Have also got March 14th listed under 1971 Touring Car Races - February 1972 Motor Sport.

Craig do you want results and race titles for the season?

Blimey, Carrera, you have been busy! And now it looks as if I'm gonna be busy working out whether or not these meetings were part of the BRSCC/British Saloon Car Championship or not!! I wonder if there was any hint at this in the magazines where you sourced this info?

Ref 1971, do you know where this meeting was held?

Thanks again - top stuff!

Steve Wood should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
This is an aside really, but reasonably relevant to this thread.

About 8 years ago, in my capacity as a buyer for the world's leading tractor manufacturer, I began doing business with a company whose MD was a childhood hero of mine - Sir Gawaine Baillie. Through the years, our business meetings have generally ended with a chit-chat about the old days. He his reticent to talk about himself, but mention a contempary's name, and he'll recall the minutest facts.
I've been trying to pin him down to get a proper interview or article together, but he's having none of it. I'm working on it, though.

Not sure about this March 14th race, but the Race of Champions round (Hepolite-Glacier Trophy race, over 2 heats) was round 1 of the RAC Championship, on March 21.

1972 The second Silverstone round in Craig's list is probably part of the C/ship.

In an article about Frank Gardner's Camaro it says the car took overall honours in 7 out of 10 rounds. It failed to finish one race, the Silverstone TT, when in collision with Brodie's Escort.

Motor Sport has this race listed under European TCs.

Sep 24 RAC TT Silverstone - two heats.

Excellent work folks - the gaps are starting to fill! Between you lot, Martin Hadwen (the BRSCC arhivist), TimD, some books that I own and some additional information that I have found on the web I think I have an idea of the 1958 calendar now:

Code:
1958 BRSCC Saloon Car Championship
11 Rounds
1	7th April	Brands Hatch
2	20th April	Brands Hatch
3	3rd May	Silverstone	Daily Express Meeting
4	11th May	Mallory Park
5	18th May	Brands Hatch
6	8th June	Brands Hatch
7	5th July	Crystal Palace
8	19th July	Silverstone	British GP
9	4th August	Brands Hatch
10	30th August	Silverstone
11	5th October	Brands Hatch
So if anyone is aware of any inaccuracies please do say!

Righto... this is what we had for 1977:

[quote]
1977 RAC Tricentrol British Saloon Car Championship
12 Rounds - Group 1 Regs
1 6-7 March Silverstone International Trophy F2
2 20th March Brands Hatch Race Of Champions
3 8th April Oulton Park Gold Cup
4 9-11 April Thruxton European F2
5 8th May Donington Park
6 6th June Silverstone Tricentrol Trophy
7 19th June Thruxton F3
8 14-16 July Silverstone British GP
9 7th August Donington Park
10 29th August Brands Hatch
11 11th September Thruxton
12 16th October Brands Hatch
[quote]

But today I picked up a programme dated Friday 8th July 1977 at Donington. Top of the bill was 'Round 6 of the Tricentrol British Saloon Car Championship'

Any thoughts?!!

Craig,
Autosport's report of that race says Round 7, and REPLACED the May round. Donington's first meeting was later in May than the 8th wasn't it?
