Try AWS in Kent, www.advanced-wear.co.uk, they supply Goodwood so probably have some (just don't ask to have the Goodwood badge put on them, as you won't be allowed!)

See you there

Well its finally here again! I'm heading off down to the south coast today, even more excited than I was after reading that Berger will be driving a 250GTO in addition to riding in the Sheene tribute. One of my all time heroes in one of my all time favourite cars. I hope all members who are travelling to Goodwood have a truly memorable weekend. See you there!

Sorry for the late reply I've only just seen your post.

I don't know! It is a bit 50/60ish but we're not going this time so........

PS Does that mean my handbag is nearly as famous as Stephens's trainers?

HELP!!! I'm having a very last-minute crisis.

What sort of jacket would women in the 1950s wear with a poodle skirt??? I've trawled the internet like mad and only come up with really odd long wool coats and that's not what I want.

Can I get away with a short, cream "windcheater" with no logo on it? Or a short black leather bomber jacket (again, no logo?). It's in the style of the jackets the "Pink Ladies" wore in "Grease". Is that okay?

Only I've seen the weather forecast and I'm freaking out!

Suzy,
You're asking blokes about poodle skirts. How can I put this? We haven't the faintest idea what you're talking about!

If it rains, the rules go out the window (and Sunday looks nasty). I guess the jacket would work if you've got a rocker thing going (the boys with the BSAs do that, and the couple with the original Multipla who park near the tunnel).

Also, you could look at Old Hat, who will probably have a stand again. Go through the tunnel and bear left towards the poor paddock. They are not charity-shop cheap, but if you get there early they might have something

Hang on a bit though. Who was the last woman to be hanged in the UK. She murdered a racing driver bloke and according to the film, dressed like you describe. Therefor eit seems more than appropriate. In a morbid, gruesome and seriously warped kind of way.

What weapon did she use Peter? Should I bring a replica to Goodwood - for authenticity of course?

Actually HiRich - I was hoping the girls who look in the Historic forum (yes, girls do look in here!) would be able to offer advice. If not, it's back to the cream jacket.

Here you go. The story from "Stephen's Casebook". It was 1955.

"Blakely left the pub with his friends at 9.20pm, ignoring Ruth Ellis who he noticed was waiting outside. Ellis took out a loaded revolver from her handbag and fired a shot at Blakely. This first shot missed Blakely, but ricocheted off a wall, injuring a passer-by. Ellis's fired a second shot and this hit David Blakely and he fell face down on the roadside. Ruth Ellis then walked over to where Blakely laid and fired four bullets into Blakely, emptying the revolver. An off duty policeman came from the pub and took the revolver from Ellis, who offered no resistance to the police officer. David Blakely was dead on arrival at hospital."

You're putting ideas in Suzy's head, Peter. This frightens me as her escort for the weekend....

Hmm... Blakely raced an HRG, so I think I'm safe - wouldn't really give an HRG a second look.

Suzy, I do have a copy of "Dance With a Stranger" I think, the movie made about Ruth and David, and it was even filmed at Goodwood. Might be able to dig out some last minute tips before we get to the circuit - as long as you aren't looking for advice as to whether to go for Colt or Smith & Wesson.

On a "look" note, the black leather jacket will go with the poodle skirt - HiRich is right - you'll fit in just right with the rockers who turn up on their BSAs and Nortons.

After a minor handbrake crisis with the Hurricane, it and myself will be driving down to Goodwood for Friday. We're missing Saturday this year but myself and my wife and daughter (now nearly 2 years old)will be there on Sunday.

Look out for a guy in a tweed jacket and flat cap, that'll be me
(black DM's and my hair in a pony tail, bit more of a give-away!)

I'll be there Fri and Sat as well.

Fri on own, but meeting up with old friend, maybe a slight dress up as warm weather. Just wandering the track and paddock. Will look out for Tim and Suzy if just to see what a poodle skirt is !! Might make the Atlas meet at 13:00 from a distance to see if RB is there.

Sun with brother to watch the races. Thankfully without his 3yr old twin terrors this year at least.

Hello all, I see that many of you who I have met will be going, so I wish you all a wonderful weekend and all racers and marshalls a safe event. May the rain be limited and the racing as exciting as I have always seen it on the tele. I truly hope one day to be able to walk around during the Revival weekend with a fedora on my head and my Speedgraphic press camera and period 35mm around my neck, playing along with the rest of you and soaking up the atmosphere.

cheers,
David

oh, and Suzy, around here when it gets down to -10 or -20, one does see poodles wearing skirts and all sorts of woolies, but that's about as much help as I'll be ;-) Be sure to get a shot of you and Tim and send it to me sometime.

The weather forcast for today and sat is fine, however we can expect heavy showers on sunday.

Some not so good news, Win Percy has put his back out and is doubtful to race this weekend.
