2007 GP volunteering

Once again the time has come for you to commit yourself to three days at glorious Silverstone!

The MSA has just sent the volunteering forms out to clubs. - you should receive yours via whichever club you belong to. BMMC members will be getting a hard copy of the form in their next newsletters and an electronic copy will be posted on our website in the next few days.

You MUST use the official form and send it back to your club - NOT the MSA.

Forms must be back with the MSA by Dec 8th, so clubs will need your forms back to them by mid November.

Having volunteered for 2006 GP and being rejected.......how long do the MSA hold a grudge for?

They said I was unreliable (Although I was reliable on seven previous occasions) because I had to cancel my availability at very short notice for two concecutive GPs (With VERY good reasons I might add)

So basically, will I be Black-listed forever?

Mark, it's got nothing to do with the MSA. All applications are processed via regional committees and passed to a Selection Committee, who have the final say. I'm not sure who is on that Selection Committee but for my own discipline of pits I have been contacted by a GP Chief Pits in the past enquiring as to whether I have any knowledge of people who have volunteered, even though I no longer marshal the GP!

its the 6-9 July.

For the past two years it has been 12 days in the previous season to the gp, so 12 days in 2006 for 2007 in the grade you are volunteering for.

Silly question this...

I sent off for an upgrade from Trainee to Course late in July and not heard anything as yet. Since then I've done 10 days, and by the end of the season I'll have done a further 12, making 22 days - are these classed as at Trainee grade, or at Course grade?

I don't claim to be an authority on this, but as I see it until your new grade has been confirmed you are still working under your existing grade.

That is my understanding too!
An ex-regalia person in the BMMC would never sell us new grading badges until we could show him our metal badge - which was proof of upgrade!

You could always do what I did & write a covering letter. I heard from my primary club (BMMC) within a few weeks of posting my grading card back but didn't hear from MSA until March this year. I wrote a covering letter and was accepted, even though I was still technically a trainee (but, like you, had done 20+ days last year).

It's worth trying. If they still don't accept you, you haven't lost anything.

Although I do not expect you to go public on this Forum, if it is the BMMC (SE) that would have appeared not to process your application for upgrade; please let me know!

Doubtful. As each year changes, the MSA start from scratch, and as each applicant has to go through his/her primary Club for recommendation, that is where you start. If you read the start of this Forum, all BMMC Members will receive a volunteering form within the next few weeks, via their Regions.

While I personally agree with that sentiment, with my mod's hat on, can I ask that we keep this thread for those who DO want to do the GP so they can discuss and research their anticipated attendance. For the sake of clarity, I will move any 'anti' posts to a separate thread, though I would prefer they didn't appear in this thread in the first place.

I have done sufficient days to qualify for the GP, however I have not done any days for my primary club and am no longer a member of that club. Will this hinder my invitation or can I do it through another club?

It doesn't matter which clubs you have done your days for/with - just list them fully on the form.

If you are a member of another club just submit your form to them - I'm not sure what you do if you're not a member of any club though? I'm sure someone will know!

It should not hinder your invitation. I have never been a member of any club but i put mine through the BRSCC(sw) never been turned down yet.

Personally, I do not think so - just apply through the Club you have the most days Marshalling for; they would be the best to judge your suitability to be put forward to the MSA.

I've marshalled the last two GP's and have spectated at the previous 3 to that and had a great time at most of them, I just get so tired and not so sure I enojy them any more...not sure if I want to apply next year, I'm open to convincing though.

I am finaly thinking about having a go at the gp after years (before retirement) of finding excuses but have had my flag grade now for 3/4 months (graded flag on rejoining bmmc and now enough sigs except training for obs) but as yet do not have msa number ( i know heres that old chestnut again, aint it funny how many different reasons there are for it appearing) do i just apply through bmmc with out the number or should i wait?
