Houston

Ok, this last week, the layout for the new Houston circuit that will host ALMS and CART was revealed. Since then, there has been no lack of commentary on the course configuration on various forums. A number of people don't think it's all that great and/or feel the site wasn't properly utilized in putting together the layout.

So, I thought it would be appropriate to bring it up here. First off, what do you think of the official layout, and given the opportunity, what would you guys come up with?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but do I spot an overtaking opportunity in turn 2?

And maybe 5 as well. I quite like this one actually. Couple of fast corners. Certainly an improvement on the last Houston circuit. Wish CCWS would stop going to so many street circuits though - need more variety. But that's for another thread.

Nice

Yeah, I suspect that curve before 5 will be flat-out.

Just to clarify, this is not a standard street circuit; it is primarily laid out on the parking lots, so there should be plenty of room to make a good, wide circuit. I guess my thought here was that, just for the heck of it at least, someone who knows the area might have some ideas.

If might be nice to see a satelite image of the area.

Here it is. I'm not sure it's entirely up to date, though.

Also, that black building in the center is no longer there.

I thought so. Otherwise they'd run the cars right through there on the new track.
