bernoldi chic should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
ure opinion please!

hey people!! :P

My sis went to the Rockingham 500 CART race and had a BRILLIANT time. She was able to go into the pitlane and meet 20 CART drivers as well as JPM!!!!

What i would like to know is why are F1 drivers so removed and inacessible to fans? i mean do they think theyre better than the rest of us or something?! what do u think about this?

Welcome B Chic. (Is that "Chic" as in stylish, or a shortening of "Chick"?) I imagine Bononi and Moffat will be hound-doggging around here soon.

On to your question, F1 is a relatively insular world, and always has been. Racing in the States has always made itself accessible to its fans. Despite the fact that msot of the drivers in CART are not Americans, what your sister got was a dose of Yankee hopitality.

For F1, Bernie realized long ago that as accessibility increases, the allure decreases. Consider it the principle if Familiarity breeding contempt. F1 is exclusive and will continue to be even more so. Its distance form its fans doesn't hurt its appeal.

That's very true Eero. Access to the pitlane, paddock and surrounding areas are strictly policed making entry impossible unless you pay a huge amount of extra cash to join the Formula 1 Paddock Club.

Even marshals such as myself are unable to gain entry to the pitlane and garages, and we have a safety role to play!

Your sister did well to see all the drivers and I'm glad she had such a great time. It's times like those that makes for future generations of spectators. If she ever goes to a Touring Car race, she will be able to get close to the drivers there. Or failing that, take her to a club meeting, often the source of really close racing with small crowds, so you can see a whole lot more of the race!

Stephen.

Uhn... EERO was completely right in his second statement.

I guess you're missing our party at Gravel Trap, go down there, so Moffie and I can tell you what EERO meant...
