Ex-Graphic Skills Commodore history
Hi all,
The V8 Supercar chassis work continues - this time I'm chasing what happened to the ex-Graphic Skills Commodore from QLD - have got the history of the car through until the end of 2001 - can anyone shed any light where it has been since? It was originally a Dencar shell for Bob Forbes Racing ... history as follows ... Dencar 10. Built new as Chev-powered Commodore VP by Wally Storey for GIO team in 1993 and debuted by Neil Crompton at Oran Park that year. Paired up with Mark Gibbs for enduros before Wayne Gardner bought team for 1994. Car repainted in Coke colours and run by Crompton during 1994 and Percy/Ingall at endures and then Crompton at start of 1995, being updated to VR for the Sandown ATCC round (Rd 1) in 1995. Crompton then got a new car with the mechanicals from this one put into a new shell and this shell became the Coke team’s back-up before being sold to Pinnacle Motorsport in 1996. Never raced in their hands, though tested Hoosiers at Lakeside with Tomas Mezera driving. Sold to John Trimble for 1997 as Bottle Magic car that he and Mezera shared before massive roll-over in Primus 1000 that year at Bathurst. Slowly repaired by Shane Cruickshank and team manager Tony Cossor and bought by Dave Skillender (Graphic Skills) when existing ex-Heffernan car crunched at Bathurst ‘99. Wayne Wakefield’s car in Konica Series 2000, finishing up front at Lakeside. Run by Sipp/Beikoff at Bathurst to strong finish. Gear pulled out of car and put into Phil Corbett’s Commodore Cup car so this car became a shell. Car put together and run by Tim Sipp in 2001 Bathurst Konica 30-lapper but hasn’t been run since. Any ideas, fire me a PM or email: an1media@bigpond.com |

What happened to the ex Price Attack car? I recall it was repaired and run at a Konica support race at Bathurst a few years ago by Wayne Wakefield, sponsored by a pet food company. |

I'm pretty sure Graphic Skills Racing repaired both chassis...at the Konica race in question, they ran both cars, one for WW and one for Tim Sipp. |

Mixxer,
This is a personal project that has been on the go for 5 years or so - it was the catalyst for The Great Race car inventory list in the Bathurst books. I'd like to think I've become something of an 'authority' on V8 chassis history etc, last thing I would do is post it all to a website either.... |

Noonz,
I know that there is definately still a V8 Supercar VS Commodore sitting on a hoist in the Graphic Skills workshop. Can't provide much in the way of exactly what car it is, but it's still pretty well intact. Contact Phil Laird at Graphic Skills Racing (haven't got his number handy) - he's a top bloke who knows how to screw together quality cars and quality engines CD. |

Hey there... enough of the junk.
Mixxer asked a fair question, I thought it was worthy of a response from Mr Noonan. I have no problem with Aaron asking questions about chassis here, certainly he has shared some of his accumulated information about other cars over the years.... No harm no foul... but keep it nice huh |

For those who are interested....Motorsport News records Wayne Wakefield making a one off appearance at Lakeside in the Konica series race in 2001, in the ex Price Attack car. It had been fully rebuilt and painted up in a rather interesting metallic green. WW ran this car in the Konica support race at Bathurst that year, sponsored by Uncle Ben's pet food.
Graphic Skills Racing also ran Tim Sipp in the same race in the other ex Pinnacle Commodore. |

Thats right Pete 60. It also was a Dencar shell originally but went to Kevin Heffernan to begin with .. history below from my records for the info of others.
Next car on my list is the ex-Moffat/Heath EL Ford - last report I had was the car intended on being put back to Cenovis colours and put in museum in Adelaide - I think that was Ross Halliday's intention - anyone have an idea? But that history for the Wakefield green car below ... Dencar #34. First car built new as a VS Commodore in late-1996, early-1997 rather than being a VR upgraded, though using parts out of the ex-Heffernan car, CR001. Debuted by Kevin Heffernan at AGP 1997 and run during year, joined by Danny Osborne for Bathurst and then took 1998 off, before returning for AGP in 1999. Sold to Dave Skillender (Graphic Skills) in 1999 and used by Wakefield/Canto in enduros. Canto punted into wall at Bathurst by Darren Pate and slowly re-built by team while Wakefield ran BFR2 in 2000 Konica Series. Wakefield debuted this car since its repair with significant changes to bar work by finishing second at Lakeside KV8SS round in 2001 and entered to run Konica 30 lapper at Bathurst in addition to SBR/Pirtek drive, which he won. Car lay idle in 2002, apart from Skillender running at Mallala, though engine problems stopped it from racing. Current status unknown. |

I think both cars are still with the team but are idle. There was talk of a two car team running Konica in 2003 IIRC to get two good young Qld drivers some national attention but the money did not come through so the ambitious plans came to nought.
