The problem I had with the Commentary, was the lack of car numbers. Joe Bloggs leading from Fred Smith blah blah blah. About 10 minutes after the 1st & 2nd hour they gave the top ten and then both times said, but of course thats all changed now and proceeded to talk using drivers names not car numbers, absolute rubbish.

Best not watch any other form of endurance racing then, almost all commentators use the drivers first, car number second.

That's fine, they do give the numbers, the clown at the weekend didnt.

Stunning race, gutted I couldn't make it. The Bentley performance to come back from the penalty call was brilliant.

I agree with Roger, Joe Osborne's stint in the #38 was probably the best of the entire race, if it hadn't been for the safety car I believe they were in a very strong position.

As for commentary, not sure I get the complaints, if they had just said numbers you would also have complained, unless you want them to read out name, number, team, car every time they mention it, and that would result in very long winded turgid commentary. The live timing is available for all.

I can't comment personally on the accreditation, but the site I write for were able to get accreditation very easily even after the deadline had closed (although I wrote our report on it from home).

Had a chance to go to this but couldn't justify going to just the Blancpain race for the last 2 and a bit hours when it's £25, as I was keen to watch the F1 then the Indy 500.

I've been to this meeting for the last few years, but didn't this time, as I'd had such a great time at Brands the previous week for the Sprint race, I knew I'd just get depressed at the Silverstone experience. Shame really as the race was pretty good in the end !

The high ticket prices, the lack of bridge / tunnel to main paddock, the 15 foot high fences and so on. We found a couple of those photographer window things open yesterday. There is one or two that no one seem to know about or use. There was about 6 or 7 people all jostling for a position for the window near Chapel. I too was told off by a marshall for apparently being in a place that I "shouldn't have been" despite behind behind barriers etc. If the fences weren't so abundant people wouldn't push their luck with access and viewing. I watched one chap open one of those metal gates near the barriers than start to shoot through it, I mean even I knew that wasn't allowed.

I suppose this all really stems from two things;

1) the debris fences almost totally cover Silverstone

2) media "accreditation" is like an exclusive club, with only the few privaliged and chosen given the access.

You know what I would love to see. I would love it for Silverstone to offer say 10-20 photographer bibs to young/aspiring or amateur photographers. As long as they have the appropriate liability insurance in place, all done on a first come first served basis, or maybe a waiting list or something. Would never happen of course.
I just found it odd during Sunday that i easily walked along Wellington Straight to get to The Loop without being stopped in the morning but in the afternoon there was a chap who was stopping everyone from walking along there. Its just ironic that i decided to go over the Bridge at Hangar Straight and wasn't stopped and managed to get access to the Photography Holes in the fence around the Loop no problem. Just to rub it in i walked by the chap in question with a grin when i was heading home!

Buhk and Gotz might be racing at the Spa 24 hours in an extra HTP merc, possibly together. And better yet, if that does indeed come to fruition, neither will be saddled with the awful Harold Primat.

So 3 HTPs could conceivably be:
Schneider/Verdonck/Primat
Afanasiev(sp?)/Wolf/Dusseldorp
Buhk/Gotz/???

The article says they are thinking out of the box when it comes to a third driver. To hell with that, you've got last years Spa winners together in one car, don't waste it, put in a solid bet like Maro Engel or Thomas Jäger.

Eh, Farfus is in 66 with Martin and Jorg Muller and Palttala is in 77 with Leinders and Werner. Two good lineups, hope Martin can get the win he deserves this year.

Farfus, Maxime Martin and Jorg Muller? That's an all-star lineup

Thought so. So he was in Silverstone? Totally missed him. Would have been nice to see with in a team capable of winning the race along with all those other Marc VDS heroes. But well, can't have it all
