AMD to [one day] become a satellite of Motorbase similar to Eurotech and Dynamics.

Well, Andy Jordan isn't winning the Jack Sears Trophy any time soon:

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/111883

The issue with this sort of prize is that someone with genuine qualifying and race pace stands less of a chance than a backmarker who gains most places through attrition. Andy Jordan will never be a competitor - he's the fastest man in qualifying and the fastest in a race - whilst Aiden Moffat could well stand a good chance...

That's the whole point of it, gives the prize to someone other than the usually suspects

Andy Jordan is a competitor for both the overall and the independents' championship though. The trophy offers small teams, backmarkers, a chance of getting some more publicity during and especially at the end of the season.

^ Basically that's half of the story. The other half is the overtaking bit, but as I say, if attrition rates are high in the series then Warren Scott could well take it...

yes even Andy Neate or Chris James could take it if they weren't part of the attrition in the first place

I understand the idea/spirit/theory of this award but there are so many practical complications regarding it's implementation... I wonder how worthy it will really be.

What complications? It's based on the difference between grid position and finishing position, not on how many cars you actually overtake. eg 20th on the grid, 12th at the flag = 8 JST points. Of course the eight cars in front of you could have crashed / retired so you never actual overtake anyone on track but that doesn't matter.

Yes, the last part of your comment is of concern as a driver who doesn't do much other than cruise and collect could nab it over a have a go hero.

I think you can rule Chris James out as he will be parked in the Gravel somewhere round the circuit

Like I said earlier Dan Welch would if win it this year on the 2014 system & I would of been happy with that, good driver, small team, hard charger

In order to go for this trophy over a season you need to endeavour to qualify as poorly as possible... then endeavour to finish as best as possible... and do this on a consistent basis. Do we want drivers to be trying their best to qualify last ?

Will competitors actually try & qualify badly (I know this come naturally to some) but with the top 15 offering points what would they rather chase? The Jack Sears trophy or score points?

I'm not the biggest fan of the new Jack Sears system but I can see where they are coming from with it! It reminds me a bit of 'Rookie of the Year' in Indycar, some years there were hardly any Rookies & some pay driver who tootled around near the back would win it, yet other years you'd have some real good quality drivers battling for it.

I'm with you... I like the spirit of the thing and think it's a good idea. It's a bit like 'driver of the day' for somebody who delivered a standout performance. Maybe the way to have done it was to run a fan poll after each event or something ?

There is already a fans favourite trophy in BTCC. It was won in 2012 by Dave Newsham, but I didn't see it happening this year at Brands??

The JST was too big a trophy only to given last year, and I don't think it will be a trophy that anybody actually sets out to win. There is just too much danger in deliberately qualifying at the back. I suspect that a lot of cars will be very similar in performance and so the overtaking at the back might be massive, whilst the potential for crashes will be. Mind you, I would be surprised if 32 cars are on the grid at Brands in March.

Good news though, it is unlikely that Chris James and Andy Neate will be anywhere near that grid!!

That was announced as a fact last week by Motorbase....... although in reality the term "customer team" would be more appropriate at the moment.
