Mike Lawrence praise Alonso
Mike Lawrence praise Fernando Alonso as the real big thing.
Fernando, according to Mike, was one of very few drivers who have been so complete so early in their careers. And, in the last fifty years there have been three: Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart and Ayrton Senna. "Alain Prost and Michael Schumacher were quick straight out of the box but, at the start of their third full season, I don't think either was as complete as Alonso is now," he said. In other side, he discredit Kimi as not a Natural Winner. http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpa...s_art_id=20122 Last edited by Led ZeppF1; 17 Mar 2004 at 03:34. |

His lap times during a race are very quick and consistent, he seems to rarely make a mistake (and when he does, like Italy, I think it was?, blowing parts off the car but finishing eighth, it doesn't cost him much), and he's already got excellent racecraft. Yes, a star for sure.

I have no problem with his worship on Fernando. He just entitle his opinion. And, I agree Fernando is god, very very good.
But, I think, in my opinion, is not fair to discredit Kimi. He said that Kimi will never be World Champion unless McLaren produces an utterly superior car, the sort of car with which any one of half a dozen drivers could take the title. Is he forget, that Kimi almost won last year and the 17D was certainly not superior car? |

Alonso has a very convincing natural style of driving that he can easily adopt to any situation on any set up he got which is a very rare gift and so is Kimi although who's got the better is very very hard to say, I think it is easier to say that these two can race MS on an equaly good car.
Anyone who still doubt the ability of these two is clearly a lost ship. They have shown more than enough and at their young ages, they have already gain a lot of respect and admiration around the sport circle. One thing is sure, they will become world champions too! |

It's just an opinion, and as such it's as respectable as disputable.
Mika Hakkinen, in the recent interview we all certainly remember, said the exact opposite. Who's right? Time will say the final word... |

Probably, neither Mike or Mika are right.
Maybe, the next big thing is Klien, or even is a young very talented driver who right now is not in F1 yet. |

It's funny how, at this early stage, various people seem to be falling into the Alonso camp OR the Kimi Kamp. As I see it, they are both pretty special, though we can't be entirely sure how special until their careers have gone on a bit longer and we've seen how they do in an actual title fight over a whole season(admittedly, we already have a pretty good idea about Kimi in that respect).
