Only two German circuits

Was watching a video of the '93 DTM championship. Very different from now - a lot of street and airfield circuits (whereas BTCC is almost identical circuit-wise apart from a few changed chicanes & corners - and Rockingham). Am I right that there were only two perminant race circuits in Germany back then?

Might well have been come to think of it?

The permanent German circuits the DTM would've used were the old long and short Hockenheim layouts, 'new' Nurby. The other home races were at places like Norisring, Avus, Mainz Finthen an another 1 or 2 airfied circuits?

Zolder and Donington were the only other permanent circuits IIRC?

I think you've named all of the circuits they used that year - well done! Apart from it was the last year they ran on the Nordscheilfe :-o

That's great, didn't know that! I remember seeing highlights of the '92 DTM race on the 14 miler, but thought that was that.

Diepholz airfield and the streets of Singen were the two remaining circuits. German motorsport got into a difficult situation when the FIA decided that national championships could only visit one or two foreign circuits - this was ca. 1989. I think this was the reason why the ITC was invented, to avoid the ban of foreign races, as this was an international title.

can you really call AVUS a street circuit? I mean I know at the end it was but the place was built for testing and racing cars and just happened to be linked up to the autobahn network

Yeah that's a very good point actually! It's race/testing heritage dates way back to the 30's doesn't it?

Here's a link to AVUS: http://www.kolumbus.fi/leif.snellman/t2.htm

As it was used as a highway during my initial racing enthusiasm of the 1980's, I do understand why it could be considered a street circuit - context is the word!

I could think of a book that details it rather well but couldn't possibly name it
