It would very likely win the diesel class... even if its as slow as a wet week

I'm confused a bit here too. I mean, allowing more drivers per entry would mean the head of the ENTRY would need to spend more to secure 4 instead of 3 drivers so economically, its not exactly the best decision. I would like to just see a mirror of the Group A regulations in the race. Group A being Turbos-charged High-Powered Coupes & Sedans Group B being V8 powered Sedans Group C: Whatever you want to bring, BMW's, Honda Integras... Super 2000 regs basically. and a Corolla class to bring up the rear + a mixed bag class of Mini's, utes, Mirages... Aternate Fuels cars NOT ALLOWED.

I'm confused as to why you think it would cost more to have 4 drivers. The teams that run 4 will be the lower budget guys who want to spread the costs over 4 people instead of 3. Makes it MORE affordable for those guys. The top teams will still run 3 drivers, they want the seat time, and it's less hassle when it comes to qualifying the drivers. I'm also confused why you complain more drivers will up costs, then propose to run significantly more expensive cars like Super 2000?

Its not like the drivers are all getting paid for their attendance... so the cost would not go up if there is another bloke in the seat

If the standard of prezentashun was important, and the team had to buy a 4th driving suit for the 4th pilot, it would be a cost impost...

Green Hornet should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
With entry costs up and numbers down, the avaricious promoter's desperate change to accommodate a fourth driver may counter this imbalance and save the race. Already the fee structures have some wondering what the event will do for support category next year.

More than a bit cynical referring the 4th driver move as avarice. I would doubt that the promoter would make enough from this race to buy a pot to pee in.

More likely to be a move to minimise the impending loss by attracting a few more entrants who can put a team of 4 together and spread the pain of participation cost.

No argument the cost of racing at Bathurst is expensive, but it is ahhh...Bathurst.

Most cars have room for that. I should make some up and slip them on while no one is looking. I could do it out on the grid before the start.

Brilliant idea Put a different phone number on the bottom, you will know if it works if you get calls to that line.. Yellow Pages does this stuff to show customers that the ads in the book do work

I can't speak for Sheepy or Kingers, but I suspect it is the same reason why the Princess didn't run the #1 on his car in 2009. He had every right to do so, as the defending champion, but the ethos of the series and the attitude of everyone involved is such that no one tends to rub success in others faces.

I think everyone is there to have a good time and enjoy their racing so putting the #1 on the door isn't really 'needed'. That is just what I have gathered from hanging around the paddock.

There is that, Or Matty felt it would pose too big a target for all those who got sick of being beaten by him in 2009... could be self preservation????

On another note.. what a good field that is for Bathurst. A lot of good 997s and some very handy 996s. That's going to be a battle even more fascinating than last seasons, I think. Game on. Can't wait.

Richard's got it right. The scariest thing in this category (outside any unnecessary crash damage) is your mates collectively taking the **** out of you if there is a perception that you're getting up yourself. They're like a pack of sharks, any blood in the water and you get torn to shreds. Matt would be too petrified to run the '1'. A well known practical joker in the paddock, he is due for a massive serve anyway.

And there are some fine exponents of the art of bagging amongst the field. Friday arvo's BBQ should be a hoot. A 'Legend' of the series is making a welcome return after some self imposed 'quiet time'. He can expect plenty.
