for the VERY VERY last time

...a Ferrari 333SP will take part in the Daytona 24 next year. Plans are to resurrect chassis #001.

Is not Daytona 24h for Grand-Am prototypes only?

Not next year; the current cars will be allowed in restricted form, with smaller engines - max. 5.3l I believe. But since the 333 engine is smaller than that anyway they'll probably just have to run smaller air restrictors.

Nope.

Next year, the SRPs will have to run the same engines as the Daytona Prototypes.

Which, I believe, means a 333SP would have to run a mildly-tuned V8 from a Ferrari 360!

I'm betting on a GTS car to win Daytona outright next year. The old GT1 cars are allowed to run in the class, and I believe one of the Porsche 911 GT1s or the Lotus Elise GT1 Lou Gigliotti's bringing will have a hell of a lot more pace than any of the prototypes. What they may lack, though, is reliability.

Interestingly enough, the Grand-am.com press release specifically alludes to the engine - "The Ferrari's engine, also number 001, is a direct descendant of Ferrari F1 technology and is believed to be the only 333SP powerplant that still matches its original chassis." - which sounds to me like it will stay in the car. The GA 2003 regs have been taken off line again so I can't look this up right now but, are you sure the SRPs have to run DSP angines?
Could be they will exempt the Rolex from this, to get better grids.

It's always been the plan that the SPR Is would run the same powerplants as the Daytona Prototypes in 2003, then be phased out in 2004. I suppose anything's possible with Grand-Am, though... The France family _loves_ to screw with their own rules.

BUT... This article might shed some light on things... It appears chassis #001 will race the Daytona Finale this year, not the 24 next year.

Makes more sense, doesn't it
You are right - it will be the finale. I simply misread. Pardon me.
