FF NEZ - culmination of stupidity

NEZ Racing Comission confirmed that 1800cc Zetec will be the only allowed engine in 2006 FIA NEZ Formula Ford Championship.

Ford of Europe had promised 10 Duratec engines for free (1000-1300 GBP each), pay Duratec drivers entry fees (15000 EUR budget for this), 5000 EUR prize money, new Ford Focus for the champions use for 6 months... total 35000 EUR support if Duratecs were allowed to race together with Zetecs already in 2006 season. Duratecs would have had NEZ Championship status and Zetecs their own Cup.

But no, they decided to stick with Zetec and throw 35 000 away! And I'm sure this will harm relations between NEZ FF and Ford in future too.

AFAIK Formula Ford Finland wanted to change to Duratec, but Scandinavians voted for Zetec.

in my personal opinion it was a smart move to tell them to go home with theire
duratec lump !

it is too small a contribution to even think about splitting up the cars you have !

formula ford has always been about all equally equipped cars out on track !

if they had opted to offer race ready engines at the price of a rebuilt of the zetecs, and paied a year entry fees for all competitors to cover the cost
of convertion kits, it would have shown real committment !

be glad you have all zetecs, and watch how it goes in the uk !

btw: is thgere any ff date for ahvenisto confirmed for 06 ?
i really want to make my way up there to race this great track !

FF calendar isn't released yet, but there's a Finnish racing championship round at Ahvenisto 1.-2. September. So if there's a NEZ FF at Ahvenisto this year, it'll be on that date.

Spot on Carsten. I'm told the conversion of a Zetec car to Duatec would cost about £7000. And then the car is to be replaced at the end of 06 for cars built to different regs. It's a no brainer. There would be nobody willing to do that if they had any sense.

blimey...

no idea in what way the regs will chenge !

to what extend need the 07 cars be different ?

will it happen that a spaceframe chassis class is not eligible for
a fia/msa recognized modern race series any more ?

might we need to store current zetec for a decade even before we are allowed to race them again ?

very upsetting...
