djt46 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
mitchie read that one many months ago, just PR blurb I'd say. Nothing happening so far, Docking and Jones have not proceeded as far as I know, as I said before they are happy to run the licence if somebody stumps up the money, can't imagine Jones coming up with the money for an A1 team! Don't just take the PR at face value. Haven't you noticed all these others countries going through the "car Unveiling"hoopla, haven't seen anything in dear old OZ yet.
I'm sure we will get one but given the total lack of corporate interest in investing in anything to do with motor sport that isn't taxis racing it won't happen in a hurry. Expect us to be last to the grid, unless the good Sheikh rattles the pockets of a few people in high places.

Alan Jones was at the launch in South Africa, where South Africa, Australia and Portugal were confirmed.

Similarly, today, the launch in Mexico saw Mexico and Brazil confirmed.

As for your expectation of Australia being last on the grid - the car will be as competitive as its driver - so there's no way to make such a prediction.

I meant we may arrive last not be last, as for the PR releases, I receive them daily from A1 and Lola however there is nothing concrete in them nor in any other area to suggest that the Australia team is imminent! That's all i have been saying, we don't have a team, however I've no doubt we will eventually.Australia was originally granted one of the 'fixed'licences so the organisers always had the expectation that Australia would be part of the show, unlike many other countries which had to apply for a licence.

Am surprised Ronaldo is going to run the Brazilian A1 team? Is there lots of money to be made in the A1 like F1?

This deal is creating the platform to sell sponsorship-contracts to companies wanting to use the image of Ronaldo without being restricted by the limitations of the football club for whom Ronaldo plays. In other words: Real Madrid is controlling the marketing rights of Ronaldo related to football. With this team Ronaldo can get a huge amount of non football related sponsorship.

It sounds like a good business venture and I can't imagine Ronaldo, or his advisors, would have gone into this without thinking of the pit falls or benefits.

Ronaldo wont get any of this. Wat about half time. Or the manager bringing him of half way through the second half. . Reminds me of joke .
David Beckhams new manager at Real Madrid says to him before his first match that he is going to bring him off at half time !. To which he responds that Alex Ferguson only ever gave him an orange at half time.

Brands Hatch GP loop is being upgraded to an FIA Grade 2 licence and should be completed in time for the A1GP in September.
I had no idea Brands was going to host the first round, until I checked the site a week ago. I can't wait!
Looking forward to seeing the grand prix loop smartened up, though I suspect it won't be quite the same for us spectators as it is now.

Ronaldho? His own Money according to the PR and grandprox.com.

does nobody have the real story on what's happening?

It's such BS. But well funded BS, which is a nice change, and all media outlets have been nicely taken care of to prevent any questions. One good customer is Mr Shelk.

Seems to be a case of getting high profile front men and worrying about the money later, I think. Same as the discussion above about Alan Jones running the Oz Team, he doesn't have the money i would think but he has the name!! Hope obviously is that these guys will suck in the businesmen with the cash to salvage national pride! The sporting side has lots of potential to be a fun, interesting event, the business side, well hmmm!!!

And how is that different to 90% of motorsport organisations?

sadly it's probably not but it is very unprofessional. it is also much more prevelant in Australia than in other countries, where motor sport and its administrative organisations, both commercial and governmental, tend to be a lot more professional than in this country

Anyone who uses the word "unprofessional" hasn't done their homework on Sheik Makthoum.

the frustration of these conversations is the total lack of context in some peoples responses.the reference to unprofessional related to motor sport organisations, particularly in Australia, in general. In no way did it refer to Sheikh Makthoum, nor his organisation, which is obviously a highly professional and well run business, from which many others could well learn.

Well, what does the shoddy - as you see it - organisation of motorsport in Australia have to do with anything?

This is an international series, with 1 Australian round.

There will be an unveiling in that country on March 30th

others raised the standard of motor sport both here and elsewhere in the world, i quite rea my thoughts. A1 will happen in Australia no doubt, exact grindings of the publicity machine are not of great interest

that's the speculation but Eastern Creek would need some fair amount of work to be suitable for open wheelers of the likes of A1. As the speculation has been that the race will be in Sydney there is no other likely track, god forbid yet another street circuit! Phillip island in Victoria would probably be more suitable, especially since the new owner is spendidng $5mill ion an upgrade but the talk seems to point to a race in Sydney.

Eastern Creek or Phillip Island are both up to spec for it as they are.

Eastern Creek would surprise me give the lack of run off at places like turn one, etc! I'm sure it can be brought up to scratch provided there is the willingness by the owners to spend the money.
