Thanks for the fantastic response and sharing the dilema. I agree with most of you. i.e both are top automotive totty.
I tend to think that in the end the M3 is the superior machine, which road testers find it hard to criticise. And so it should be, costing 45% more than the Sub. I looked at a new one (M3) in a dealers showroom and despite it being eminently desirable, in both appearance and oily bits - it's still a flash motor - something I'd be happier avoiding. I'm going to revisit and drive the Sub. I'll pass on any observations worth adding. The poll is very close at 54/46 to the M3. I don't think there's a wrong opinion here. Except......... maybe a couple of AMV8 .I agree there's nothing that compares with the Aston's blend of bespoke luxury and brawn. However if I wanted something like this, I'd prefer an early Corvette, which I expect, I could buy for the price of a major service on the Aston. Delta Integrale. Hmmmm........ car had everything going, crammed into a pretty/brutal saloon body work.A ground breaking if expensive to maintain, homologation special with classic status, coming soon. It's a bit too old, to consider as an everyday car now. |

I would much prefer to have the BMW M3, solid, good to drive, fast and relaibale. The subaru may be fast, but it aint half tacky inside! un reliable and rattily!!

M3 - Someone need to add the option MG ZS. Might not be the most desirable but the car is just great. People dream of owning DB7's and Ferraris but I want an MG ZS.

Food for thought. How about a grey import Subaru Legacy GTB twin turbo. 280Bhp, 4wd handling and infinitely more stealthy than your other 2 choices. (Get the estate and you can even transport wardrobes. Very quickly.)

I've heard an interesting rumour that when the new model Legacy comes out later this year, there will be an official UK model Legacy turbo.
It won't quite be the twin turbo B4 RSK/GTB rocket ship that's available in Japan, but it could be worth a look... In a similar vein (all be it from the enemy), there's the Mitsu Galant VR-4. "(Get the estate and you can even transport wardrobes. Very quickly.)" Or labradors. Wardrobes tend to be less messy tho Last edited by garcon; 18 Mar 2003 at 20:08. |

Actually, my preference for the Sub would be (dirty) white paintwork and dark graphite wheels. Maybe lowered 38mm. Is that not more low key than the BM? Quote:

Well, if you want a mobile sports sofa with lots of toys, get the M3 - if you want a road going rally car get the Evo or WRX STi..
BTW, the MY'03 STi + PPP = 306Bhp / 299lbs torque I've driven one that is running slighly higher HP and its nuts. Test drive one to find out if you like it first... Oh btw, the MY'03 WRX + PPP is kicking out 265Bhp and somewhere round the 260lbs torque mark... Rgds, Alex |
