Is the Falcon GT the greatest series of cars ever released.I could be biased but based on the emotion these cars still generate can anything match them?

Ford Escort was the best selling in UK, and the Escort Cosworth is very special to a lot of people.

Got to agree about the Escort. I have rallied a Mk1 1300 and I should never have sold it. If you go to a historic rally watch the reaction of the crowd when an Escort hangs its tail out.
As for the Falcon... I have never actually seen one so t is hard to have a reaction.

I think the Porsche 911 should get the vote in this. There is hardly a level of Motorsport that this car hasnt competed and its been a top road car for 40 years and is still considered to be the best in class.

An even more bland than normal Ford Mondeo, only more softly sprung and with more front-end weight bias. Excuse me for not getting over excited.

Kinda like the Holden Monaro CV8s that were shipped over recently and roundly panned by the British automotive press. The best comment I saw was "not as bad as you might think". Praise indeed.

The current model Falcon is being hailed as the best package ever produced in Australia. The things go, stop, handle and have some quality interiors and equipment. Don't bag something you haven't tried.

I'm sure the Falcon has it's fans..... but does it really do anything special that other large(ish) Aussie and U.S. V8's don't do?

I used to own an Escort.... a very, very ordinary car with no real redeeming features. Now I'm sure the Mk 1 Twin Cam (Lotus) and Mk II RS1800 (BDA) and later Escort Cosworth models were something special, but not Escorts in general.

By the way, the topic was "greatest series of cars ever released". Can we really say the front wheel drive Mk III Escorts are the same series as the Mk 1 and Mk II? Same marketing name yes, but same series?

Same with some other favourites of mine..... is the Ferrari 308GTB...... 360 Modena, all one series? Or are the older transverse engine cars like 308, 328 a different series from the GTO, F40, 355, 360? What about the Porsche 911..... isn't there at least 2 series.... air-cooled flat-six and the later water cooled flat-six which shared few if any parts with the earlier cars.

In any case my vote is for the Ferrari mid engine V8..... in particular the GTO, F40, 355, 360 series cars. Close runner up is the Porsche 911 (air cooled series in particular).

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the Mini (and I don't mean that BMW thing either).

I know styling is a very subjective thing, but I can't possibly reconcile the term "bland" with that picture.

I'm sure you would be impressed if you saw one in the metal.

And re the Monaro - Pommy mags "always" overrate local stuff and understate anything from elsewhere

Monaros are fabulous - and much better than the GTO version being sent to the States.

The Falcon GT is a classic in mass produced affordable real world muscle. That unlike a Ferarri starts every time you want it to and can take you, and your mates to the drags, the pub or the Cross.

What more could one want???

In case you hadn't noticed we don't actually have a car industry in the UK!!

I dunno, I guess I just have an allergy to "muscle cars". AWFUL things. Australians and Americans CANNOT make decent cars. They weigh a tonne, are built from iron and cheap plastic, look yawwwwwnsome (like the one above), have the technology of an abacus and leaf srings are considred "dynamic". Yes they're cheap, but the fuel economy??!! A power to weight ratio of 3bhp/tonne. A car wide enough to take up two lanes and be incapable of turning a corner. A Chevvy V8 does NOT make a sports car. Or any car.

NOT cool.

And near on £30,000 for a car?? i can think of cars half the price that will KILL it cross country. KILL it. DESTROY it. EAT it. £30k I'd get me an EvoVIII, a Scooby STi... hell, even a Mini Cooper S-H for £17k would win in a point to point run.

Of course we have a car industry! My Dad is building one in his shed as we speak..er read. here in the UK we build our own cars and that is why James Bond should be driving a Westfield or a Caterham or a Tiger etc

come out here to a man's country and I'll show you a man's car. As for them not going around corners, sorry, you don't know what you are talking about. Try to have a drive of a well sorted RWD car, you'll soon give up on small FWD buz boxes.

Also, Australian cars have sportier dynamics than American muscle cars. Our roads and tastes are different.
