If I'm not wrong it's a Sports 2000 car, built for the British series and powered by a 2000 cc. Ford Pinto engine, dates back to the late 70s, maybe it's the first car of the category to be raced.
It had no wings and/or other aerodynamic devices. |

The 490 was the first of the Lola Sports 2000 with the 492 following on, just tidied up. Good little cars. Reasonably well supported series in the UK.

These cars were also popular in US Sports 2000 racing. A developed version with rear wing, wider wheels/tires and Cosworth engine also competed in CSR {C Sports Racing). One even ran in a few CanAm races!
Now popular in vintage racing in the US. |

A record 1 19 round Thruxton, would that be right in 77?
That's John Cooper right behind who nerfed me off on the last corner of the last lap the b...... He apologised by letting me drive at Le Mans with him in 79. Last edited by gfm; 18 Feb 2004 at 20:36. |

joh, I think thats John Brown's car isn't it ? ISTR a chap named Mike Oustroumoff also had some goes in it. Did you get on with John B, as he also backed your F2 Lola as I remember ?

Yes, JB was getting married and lent me the S2000. Mike Oustroumoff is a regional organiser with the BRDC now. Good bloke; much historic racing support. Sad to relate, you know JB took his own life a little while ago. He lived pretty close to the edge commercially, enormous energy of course. I worked for him for 3 years I think. I don't think he 'backed' me very much, just paid for the paint job!
