Best tyres for everyday road use ?

Does anybody have an opinion as to which road tyres i should be looking at for my Mondeo 1.8 lx, the standard Goodyear NCT3`s are fab in the dry, but in the wet they are pants, i don`t tend to use the car that much, it`s the kid carrier if you get my drift, and if the wife says they are bad in the wet, then they must be.
I will be looking at paying up to 70 squids each corner, they are on 15 inch standard steel wheels, not sure what the width is though, standard tyres on now are 195 60x15.

3 of our cars run on Avons - ZV1s and ZZ1s, and we find that
a) They give fantastic cornering,
b) They're great wet or dry,
c) They wear out very slowly, and
d) They're pretty damn cheap - I got 195/50/15s for £45 each inc VAT, and we got some 205/50/17s for £70 each

It depends on what you want out of a tyre. On my old car I put Yokohama A539s on the front and they were great. The new car has come with Michelin Pilot Primacy and they are also excellent tyres. Typical Michelin though, not a lot of warning before giving way.

mine are 185/55/r14 Continental (im not sure the model) but they are cheap and last ages (apart from when a nail gets stuck in one). Only problem, i slide all over the place horizontally especially in the wet - or is it just my driving :P The mechanic at the rolling road also commented that they take ages to warm up.

Oh good...maybe one of you can help me...
I run a 1999 Olds Aurora,, I live where it rains as much as Jolly Old and I'm looking for something with better overall handling than the Goddyears it runs now..
I wanted the Michelins for a compromise between good handling with decent wet weather traction, but I've been kinda put off them and was thinking since years ago I had good luck with Yokohamas trying a set of them....any input?
Handling and wet weather traction are the most important conciderations.....price..longevity..no matter...

I have Yokohama A539s on my Ford Falcon and they are very good in the wet and excellent in the dry, they also wear very well and are very quiet. I don't know what they sell for in the UK but they are very reasonably priced in Australia.
