Zaugg did pretty well in the World Series by Renault this weekend (2 2nd places) in only his second race meeting with the series so he's not a slow peddler. Plus don't forget South Africa now have DAMS running the car.

I didn't know DAMS were running the team, which is a definite plus, but by coincidence I was just about to say that I may have been wrong about Zaugg after his performances at the weekend!
The only problem I have with him now is that he's generally regarded as more Swiss than South African and may even have been born in Singapore. But it's not the first tenuous driver nationality link to crop up in A1GP. I'm still disappointed about van der Merwe, though, but I think there must be political reasons for that, which we don't know about. Otherwise they would have given him a shot last season. |

I could be wrong, but I think that he is generally regarded as South African by the people involved or following these championships more closely. Regarding where he was born, even Red Bull seem to be confused! Singapore? http://www.redbull-juniorteam.com/20...f_the_week.php South Africa? http://www.redbull-juniorteam.com/20...tail.php?id=20 |

Chris Van Der Drift looks a pretty hot prospect as well judging by what I saw at Donny over the weekend so New Zealand mudt have a strong line up with him joining Jonny Reid and Matt Halliday supposedly?
Is Dick Bennets still running that squad (i'm secretly hoping he'll take one of the drivers into WSR/GP2 Next year) |

No, WSR have been ousted by Super Nova Racing. You may think this is so Matt Halliday can get a drive in GP2 with Mr Sears, but I couldn't possibly comment.
WSR are left running Team USA and that other young hopeful, Al Unser Jr. |

Kind of!
Yes I meant World Series Renault when I said WSR/GP2 why have they done that?? Shame Dick isn't looking after his national team, It weas great to see his team running single seaters again. Re the Halliday point, he's not yet down to drive the NZ entry is he? Is Dick Bennetts going to run another A1 squad instead then? |

I hope dICK Bennett's mangeds to get what he needs together to re-enter a decent single seater series next season like FR 3.5 or GP2, but that's for another thread! |

Tuka Rocha will lead Brazil for the first 3 rounds, with Carrapatoso, Negrao and Matos as reserve for Zandvoort, Brno and China respectively.

Earlier reports suggested it was going to be Piquet Jnr again but I guess Renault F1 testing will keep him occupied.

Where's Spain, Argentina, Venezuela, Sweden, Finland? All of these have much interest in drivers at this sort of level at the moment and in motorsport in general, whether the respective nations have a race on the calendar or not? I must have missed something about Portugal withdrawing too??!! |
