2011 Bathurst 12 Hour
It's shaping up as being a massive event. February 4-6 2011.
GT interest from at home and abroad, Production interest surprisingly up given the threatened boycott at this year's event. Already Formula Vee and Improved Production are confirmed as support categories, with another 2/3 categories set to be announced in the coming months. |

You have to ask Belly13 - he seems to know, or they are very good drugs he is on. Like alfacors' take on Vees, I thought the end of the world would arrive before Improved Production would go back after the last treatment by the organisers.

IP didn't have a problem with the organisers, it was more a problem with the weather. I think the DakDak boys got the least amount of laps in over the weekend due to the weather. There are some things you can't control.

IP have been pushing to get back there, and I believe they have strong support from the IPRA competitors to do so (from what I've read on their forum anyway).

Saloons got nailed with a wet R2 which got cancelled too. But the GT3 boys also had the 1st corner accident which caused the Safety Car to parade around for a bit too.
Vees got shafted in 2009 when the fire alarm went off and they had to can the race, and then it didn't get rescheduled. |

So what does everyone think about the proposal to run slick tyres on Production Cars in a bid to reduce the lap time difference between GT & Production?

I would imagine that the use of slicks would increase the speed of the production cars quite markedly from Skyline to Forest Elbow, but would be less significant elsewhere.
That should mean that the speed differential is reduced at the place where it is most difficult to pass. The choke point now would seem to be the cutting. Any opinions? |

Im sure they did the same thing in the 24hr. They may get better tyre economy from the slicks but Im sure someone else can answer that question.
I would be great to see the Rolex GT class compete at the event. There speed would be similar as well as tight racing. |

"There is two aspects with the international teams. The first is with the drivers. Each car can only have one seeded driver and there is a minimum of three drivers per car. For example – if there was factory team, they could only bring one professional driver out. Secondly, parity – after the October Bathurst round of the Australian GT Championship, we will have a parity system that we can implement for February but I wouldn’t discount further adjustments at the event."
More of this seeded driver rubbish! And dont get me started on parity. |

Here was a chance for the event and the GT category to have a race with a clean sheet of paper. Hold a proper outright race where the best team and drivers from anywhere in the world can win but yet it seems we will have another charity benefit. I will look on in interest to see the when entry list released. |

Try this for size, "Hi Audi, my names James, I'm from Australia, how bout you spent a zillion dollars and bring down some of your cars to Bathurst, oh, by the way, only send two good drivers, and if you go too quick on Saturday, we might throw 200kgs on the passanger seat for the race " Audis response "Get ****ed" |

Do they actually want factory entries with three professional drivers aboard?
One entry like that would kill the whole race. I'm not a fan of the way the driver seeding stuff is handled in the Aus GT Championship, but once you start to talk about races where multiple drivers are required, it can actually work quite well. |

You guys just don't seem to understand the fundamentals of attracting spectators to motor racing in Australia.
If you want Aussie race fans to turn up in decent numbers - as opposed to the handful who turn up to any meeting that doesn't have V8 Supercars - then you have to give them something they can relate to. So forget about anything that either isn't sold here in reasonable numbers or isn't a Commodore or Falcon. My proposal offers something for showroom shoppers (ie. the all-in race) and the suburban petrolheads (the Commodore SS/Falcon XR6 Turbo race). Anything else will leave the fences bare, as we'll see at the next 12-hour. |
