MG Live!
MG LIve! is just four weeks away.
This year the MGCC are welcoming the Ferrari and Porsche race series as well as Morgan. A recipe for paddock chaos I suspect but hope not! |

Why would those two marques make things any different.

It clashes with Spa Summer Classic so I'm afraid I'll be suporting Alain and Vincent rather than Ron Gammons. I think that will be the first one I've missed in 30 years
It's a pity they've dropped the high speed trial (no MSA licence required) and all the other 'club' things to cram in some extra races. |

I will be at Spa too, with my MG ZS180; it really is the sort of car that should be at Silverstone but MGCC don't do much to appeal to the genuine club racer these days do they...

The difference will be in the extra number of cars vying for garage space. The ferriars and Porsches will mainly have trucks and motor homes adding to a usually very full paddock.
David you should make your views known to Dave Saunder or Ron Gammons. If members don't speak up nothing will change. |

Derwent, MGDavid and I (well, me certainly!) put our views trenchantly to Mr G some years ago. The drift away from the club member to Silverstone Classic Lite has been one of the contributory factors in me giving up my MGCC membership after 30-odd years.
This isn't a place to air my dirty washing but if you care to search the MGCC forum you will find it! |

Seconded! Far too much focus on the BTCC wannabes instead of the genuine clubbies,Ron and Mr Saunders? They couldnt give a stuff about the clubman,I found that out several years ago and promptly stopped my membership. There are further reasons but this is not the place to discuss them.{Subsequently now sorted with the above names being of any help what so ever} |

I see the club has a full page advert in Motorsport News this week lobbying for entries. It would appear you're not going to be tight on paddock space, Derwent.

Not that bad - Ecurie GTS appears to have almost full grid (GP circuit allows up to 54 cars) and the joint FISCAR/Iconic 50's race looks pretty good now after a slow start. I think we may also see some late entrants. Allcomers Enduro and Classic Throughbreds look to be fairly well supported too. The timetable has changed incidentally, as the FISCAR race is to be on Sunday, not Saturday. Check out updated timetable here:-

Personally I'd rather watch 20 laps of the old triangle than 5 on the GP, the cars just string out so much.

Point taken, thought plumbob was generalising rather than restricting to MGs. We need to recognise that there are very few marque clubs left that run full motor racing seasons; it seems to be the way of the world. Not sure what the answer is.

Well I'll be there avoiding politics doing a bit of racing, sharing my car with Mark Prutton.

The entry list looks very healthy now. The cost of using the whole circuit is massive so overall the MGCC needs to have about a 66% full grid to pay the cost of each race. Some of the MGCC series have merged grids and of course the Ferrari, Porsche and Morgan races pay for their grids which helps the whole event cover costs hopefully.
The displays and register parking are all infield and the new Arena circuit does cut down the amount of useable space as when we used the Bridge circuit the old "club" straight could be used for parking, displays, etc. It's a no win situation for the Club. Older cars don't like the long straights etc and of course the spectators see the cars fewer times on the long circuit. But on the other hand where else could the Club run such an event? |

Good race for Fiscar, weather kept off, prize giving the slow bit, some of the drivers need to read the regs properly about pitstops (at least 2 didn't pit !) but in all a good race.

Looking at the results the FISCAR race looks a great series, when is the next round?

Simon, got your message from Peter Adams, thanks!
Yep great race, although a tad confusing since FISCAR cars had pit stops whereas the MGCC Iconic 50's didn't. And no-one told the commentators about the pit stops so they were reporting a lot of retirements until they realised that the cars were back on track!! Next FISCAR race (on its own) is BDC at Silverstone on 10th August (a very special day). So Simon when are you going to join us - I guess it will have to be Jaguar, so an early drum braked XK120, or perhaps a Turner Mk 1 Climax? |

Pete said that it was the first time he has found a series that naturally fits a Turner Climax and that it was the most fun race he has done to date. It certainly seems to fit into my new direction of "Gentlemen Driver" racing. As to what car I get that depends a lot on the next few days!
