Tahinchi in GP2
This guy is always off the pace and is last just about everytime, how the hell did he make it to GP2?? i suspect turkeys lira helped him get a seat but he is just not making any impression. he should go back to f3 and hone his skills.
whats his previous formula records like?? |

Better that he's there than there's an empty seat.
He may be slow but he's not erratic or dangerous as far as I recall. |

Jason Tahinci's record in the lower formulae is not good to be honest. He was a backmarker in British Formula Renault over the last couple of years and did a few demonstration laps in a Jordan at last years Turkish Grand Prix. Ultimatley, I suspect that he owes his place in GP2 due to his sponsors and having a father (Mümtaz Tahincioğlu), who is head of the Turkish Motorsport Authority probably helps. Whilst, it is perhaps undesirable that a driver can reach such a level on the back of his sponsorship package, he isn't the first and certainly won't be the last.

He finished something like 20th in British F3 last year didn't he?
Still, I have nothing against the guy. You don't really notice him, so it's OK. |

good luck to anyone but jason's position on the gp2 grid just underlines how far big bucks can carry a driver these days, regardless of ability.
plus the turkish part of his ancestry isn't holding him back any now we have a turkish gp! |

The year following he finished 27th (!!) Last year he scorched to a career high 20th. His best results to date have been qualifying 9th for a formula renault race and a highest finish of 11th. I cannot believe he is racing in GP2 with not even a top-10 finish to his name in FRenault. |

Jason's father is quite a big business man in Turkey. I believe that he was the importer for Cadbury's in Turkey. Mr Tahinichi also runs TOMSFED, the equivelant of the RACMSA in Turkey. Jason doesn't seem to have the pace despite 3 years in Brit F/Renault.
I think that if Can Artam hadn't been so seriously miss managed he would have shown a lot better in GP2/F3000. A case of way way too much too soon. |

Isn't he also sponsored by a Turkish oil company?

TOMSFED is the Turkish motorsport Federation. As a result of running that he is able to steer sponsors in his son's direction. The Turkish GP, his son and his Turkish F3 team are all sponsored by Petrol Ofisi.
