peter36387 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Drive your oldtimer in China!

Hey pals, a friend of mine will go to China with his MG this October, I think the rally quite interesting, it’s called “China Open of International Classic Cars 2010”, from the 24th - 30th Oct this year and it’s even a FIVA B event (FIVA stands for Federation Internationale Vehicules Anciens. Just read the Classic Cars Weekly about an article about USA, Canada and China being the member of FIVA since last year). For historic car lovers it might be a pretty good choice, and I admire my friend very much. Unfortunately, I couldn't go with my friend due to my schedule at work. However, I’d like to share the details with you though. (For specific information, these two websites will be helpful:

As far as I know, there have been some entries from Belgium, UK, Germany, Japan, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong. An international one…

Route: Beijing—Tianjin—Jinan—Xuzhou—Hefei—Nanking—Hangzhou—Shanghai approx. 1600 kilometers.
I spend couple of months in China every year because of my work. From the map, the rally will go through the eastern coast of China that is called “the golden area” up there. I have been to Hangzhou for 3 times, and I am impressed with the scenery of the West Lake, pleasing and unforgettable! Fortunately, this remarkable scenic spot is included in this event. In addition, many other tourist attractions are also there, such as the Great Wall, the Yangtze River, hometown of Confucius,Chinese Venice.

I heard that the Chinese government is opening the door for historic vehicle industry gradually; the rally may offer an opportunity for a communication with Chinese oldtimer enthusiasts, which in my opinion is a good way to get to know the market there before they start buying!

Welcome, Peter, I'll let this one stand, on the trusting assumption that you have no connection with the organisation of this event.

Not to throw cold water on this, but there was a similar event organised a couple of years ago that all ended in tears with lots of money lost in prepaid entries, shipping etc. Not to say this isn't a proper event but maybe check it all out first. Does anyone remember the reports of the last failed event?
