Westysprinter should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Olivers Mount - accident Driver OK

There was a nasty accident at Olivers mount yesterday mainly due to the changing weather conditions. The driver is absolutely A OK, but has to be one of the luckiest people alive. The car, a westfield, spun aproaching the top of the hill and collected a substatial amount of the wooden fencing, which entred the car at various places causing major damage, one plank stopped on the drivers chest pinning him to the seat. As i said he is ok but the car is destroyed.
It must beg the question how much longer can these temporary venues be deemed safe, armco would have stopped the car in a more controlled manor and caused much different damage (it was a fuly caged car), but no chance of wooden planking nearly skewering him like a kebab?
I'm not picking on Olies i love the place but a general observation as there are a number of such "temporary" venues

The venue will have an MSA Track License which details all the precautions that have to be taken. It is the responsibilty of the MSA Steward to make a full report along with the Scrutineers. I suspect there may be some alterations recommended as a result.

Glad the driver is OK; the car being "fully caged" was the wise thing to do but as you say you don't expect planking etc to enter the car.

A friend of mine was killed some years ago when her car hit a set of wooden pailings; one skewered through the car's footwell and pinned her to the seat. Thankfully she was killed outright.
