Life?
People always tell me that the worse F1 team in history was Life. I don't even remember them but I hear all kinds of stories about them. Is it true that they thought it was great if they could make a lap during qualifying? If so, how many laps did they manage to do all season. I don't think they qualified for a race.
Anyone have any other info on the Life? |

If you look at the 1990 season the Life team was if they were to make it past Pre-Qualifying on Friday and I think that they make it past Pre-Qualifying but still would not qualify for a GP, there times was normally the slowest
You can have a look at my homepage in the 1990 season to see what the teams results in F1 were. http://www.formula1results.com Quintin Cloud |

I think it was David Brabham who remarked that at their first race, the Life team sent their car out after checking the pressure on only the left hand side tyres.
Why didn't they check the pressures on the right hand side? Was it a tactical move or a secret technical advantage? No. You see they didn't have a tyre pressure gauge and before they were finished checking the car, they had to return the gage to the team who they borrowed it from. This is Formula 1. The ultimate in motorsport right? |

Ive read that in the past as well David..but i think you will find that it was Gary Brabham and not David Brabham..Gary drove (if thats what it was called) in the USA and Brazil and decided the team was useless and skipped town to try and find an F3000 ride.
the team then hired Bruno Giacomelli ..and how he even managed to fit into the car I will never know ..but he didnt do any better and in the end the team dumped their W12 engine in favour of a Judd V8 ..but again the car was just way to slow....wonder where the heck it is now though ???? |

Yep, it certainly was Gary in the Life car. But perhaps Death would have been a more appropriate name, as the car was generally 25 seconds of pole... and that was of course if it actually made it to pre-qualifying.

Yeah, Life's best effort was 15 seconds off the pre-qaulfying pace, and on one occasion an engine blew up 7 seconds after it was first switched on! The F1 Rejects piece is hilarious by the way.

Bruno Giacomelli was faster in 1978 with his March 782 than with the Life some years later !!! No comment !
There was a Russian link with LIFE. Do you know more about it ? |

Marc!
They (i.e. Ernesto Vitta) tried to earn money from Russia and for that purpose brought the car and Bruno in august 1990 to Moscow where they are organized a presentation. But, AFAIK, they failed. BTW, the abbreviation "PIC" on their car means smth like "Poniatovsky" (I'm absolutely sure that I make a mistake in this name" Invesment (or smth. like this) Company. This guy was an adventurer (not in the best meaning of this word). P.S. It seems to me, that nor Gianni Morelli, nor Franco Rocco havn't visited Moscow in 1990. 1990 - Life & Bruno in Moscow |

was actually a nice looking car.
am I right in thinking that the chassis was actually the chassis that was planned to be used by the "First" team that never made into F1 in 1989 ???? or am I totally wrong about that ? |

The guy who designed the Life car certainly designed the FIRST one according to f1rejects.com at least, but I'm not sure it was the same one. The thing about Life was that the engine wa stheir major point, the chassis was just an attempt to sell the engine design to another company, but of course it was laughed out of court.

Yes as far as I recall it was the First chassis that was tested by Tarquini with a Judd engine for Lamberto Leonis team - they were persuaded not to go F1 in 1989 by Leyton House March who gave them a works deal - unfortunately the F3000 car they got was'nt quite up to the Reynards and they switched mid season, altho Giovanardi won in his last outing at Enna as I recall - he then switched to the Reynard!!
