Curborough Under Threat- Part 2
May we thank you for your support in the first phase of protecting Curborough Sprint Course from development into a 5000 dwelling town.
We are now into Phase 2 and need your help again, this time to petition the Government to have Curborough removed form the Eco Town shortlist. Please post details on any other forums who may have an interest, as we are after large numbers!!! Full details can be found at our website set up purely for this campaign: http://www.curborough.com Many thanks in anticipation Steve Udall Vice Chairman SDCC |

As posted on the marshals thread, please be very very careful when signing the petition as one (not sure which) has already been rejected by the Government as being classed as being a 'duplicate' - similar to or overlapping an existing petition.
Last Friday's Lichfield Mercury carried the story on the front page. http://www.lichfieldmercury.co.uk/di...=sidebarsearch |

I understand the Curborough eco-town plan has now been withdrawn, along with the one in Lincolnshire

Curborough Development
The proposed "Eco Town" on the Curborough site will not now go ahead as the developers have withdrawn from the Eco Town bid.
However, they are pressing ahead with plans already submitted to Lichfield District Council for a conventional 5000 home development. We would like to thank everyone for their support so far, and will advise via the website of any further help we may need. Any further news regarding the planning application will also be posted on the website. http://www.curborough.com Regards Steve Udall SDCC |

From Number 10
Just had an email response from Number 10, it reads as follows:
Eco-towns give us a unique opportunity to tackle two of the greatest challenges facing the country in tandem – the pressing need to confront climate change and deliver more affordable housing. These locations have the potential to deliver vital affordable housing for tens of thousands of young people and families. We want up to 10 eco-towns – delivering up to 100,000 new homes – that could mean at least 30,000 extra affordable homes. On the 7th July 2008 the Curborough Consortium announced that they are withdrawing from the Eco-town process. The Curborough Consortium have, however, submitted a planning application for a new settlement at Curborough outside of the eco-towns planning process. You can find further details on the proposal and the Curborough Consortium at their website: http://www.curborough.org/. So I guess there will be another petition? |
