Knock on Minilites weigh a tad more than wires because of the bulk off the wheel centres, plus the hub bolts can shear.

In fact they took the flexing for 24 hours in '63, 64 and 65. at Le Mans then for 84 hours (?) in the Marathon De La Route.

I do recall the GTS RMO 699F breaking its hub bolts (Minilites) at silverstone some years ago. Barry Sideways wouldn't stop though. Just came in and thought the bearing had gone.

some people won't race on Ford steel rims, but if you select good ones and check them properly they're fine

I've even thought about getting some new ones made as Minilites are so passe! If they're good enough for Jim Clark . . . .. .

Minilites weren't actually developed for lightness as such. They were developed so that they could get more air to the brakes. To do this they had to have larger "buttresses" to support the rim. Thus it was necessary to make them from lighter material.

The rest is history as they say.

If it could help: I can always go marshalling (instead of walking around) on a convenient post where you could have some equipement stored for an extra pit stop.
I'm as blind as a bat and can't hear the sound of power guns at all.

But I didn't write that.

I'm not aware of them Terry, most of their wheels have loads of holes in and look crap!

Steel 5 1/2J's weight nigh on exactly the same as your average minilite replica, and I have a dozen or so Dunlop D1's which also weight the same . . . ok they didn't appear until 67 but they're good wheels and look right.

I might ask weller if they can make 18 x 9J steels, or perhaps just some reversed Modeo rims . . .got to keep up with the Jones'

enought chat . . . . off to finish my new race engine

well I've had time to build a new engine in my spare time betwixt the two meetings so I don't see why a millionaire with a legion of mechanics & engineers can't

I'm sure some of them have ongoing projects anyway, Goodwood engines will be off the pace by October

Is this still the 6 hr thread Hopefully I shall be there but I incurred some pretty bad body damage at Brands yesterday. I pushed and pulled it to some sort of shape and I did have a class win today, but it wont look too pretty for Spa !

We had a 40 car grid on Saturday , but I think Menu and Zanardi must have been ahead of me as I didn't see them, it wasn't one of them that punched me into a spin

I've just gone through the timetable and worked out I am entered in 4 1/4 hours of qualifying and 13 hours of races. Not all driving by myself as will of course be sharing in a couple of races (including the 6 hour) but it is certainly going to be a marathon weekend!
