Zandvoort sold out ALREADY?
Looked on the A1GP web site earlier today and was surprised that Zandvoort tickets are already available, but then shocked to see that all the grandstand tickets are already sold out!
Surely they have been bulk purchased by an agency or something, it was only announced a few days ago after all! Anyone know more about this, or how to still get tickets? I do have a clash with F1 back here in shanghai but was still thinking of going if Brno is the following week as rumoured. |

That’s correct: The ticket sales started on Monday and all grandstands are sold out. Only tickets you can purchase are Dune Tickets (which isn't a bad place either).
The ticket sales are huge because of the immense popularity of Verstappen in The Netherlands (he once demonstrated a F1 car on Zandvoort for about 60.000 visitors). One of the reasons for the A1GP being held on Zandvoort is that Verstappen-supporters gathered 16.000 autographs with an online petition to race in Zandvoort. Over the weekend there will be more than 250.000 spectators. |

Wow thats very impressive, hopefully we will see record crowds at all the other rounds too. Id not mind betting that the GB round will be signifcantly bigger next season.

Should make up for the poor attendance at Laguna Seca. But then again any race would be popular at Zandvoort.

Wow, sold out already! If that is indeed the case, A1 should hold another round there or one close by, like at SPA or Zolder. Maybe, that will motivate someone to start a Belgium team.... |

I was pleasantly surprised considering that motorsport is a novelty here and that most people have already been to F1. |

The crowd at Shanghai looked considerably bigger than at either Moto
GP or V8 Supercars last year.I really think A1 would be better off returning there at the expense of Sepang although Sepang is a great circuit. |

Strange, from one of the TV shot of a pair of grand-stands it looked like there was no one there. Maybe that was just those grand-stands? After that shot, I didn't really pay attention to the crowd. I'm glad there was paople there. I like this series a lot and would like to see it grow. That's why I made sure to go to Laguna Seca.

Sepang had a smallish but very parochial crowd, but should be even better next year now that Alex has won a race, plus they now have Proton who will no doubt help with promotion.
On the Shanghai circuit web site they are claiming a weekend crowd of 80,000, I think that is overstated by quite some margin. |

I struggle to believe this to be true - remember there were the rumours about Brands Hatch and Eastern Creek that floated around before those races - must one think they come from within A1 Grand Prix themselves.
There would be a lot of water to go under the bridge before Zandvoort is even confirmed, let alone going ahead (with the remainder of the series in 06/07). I wouldnt believe anything yet |

The fact that China's population is one billion is not relevant at all. A grandstand ticket is the equivalent of a year's income for the vast majority, and the wealthy educated minority had barely heard of motorsport until two years ago. It is still very much a novelty here, and F1 arrived first. |

Zandvoort has 5 unrestricted noise-days in 2006 (for the F3 masters and the DTM). A few months back they gained 7 extra noise-days with a restriction of 96 dBA. But some local protests troubled the water That means that the A1GP has to run on a 96 dBA-day........if they get those seven 96dBA-days. Show me an A1GP-car that produces a maximum of 96 dBA. Yeah, Verstappen in the pits at Laguna Seca when he stepped out It's true that a lot of tickets are sold. 10.000, 20.000 or 30.000..........I don't know a exact number. Will the race happen? Yes! Why? Zandvoort is playing powerplay (and it's sold tickets) with the local and regional authorities. |

Or they just wrote down what profit it would bring and what costs they would if they go ahead.
From what I heard the expected income is way more than the maximum penalty for exceeding the noise limits. But then again...do that 1 year and you know the fines will go up or you'll lose your other 5 noise-days. |

That has to be good news to the race organizer, if the tickets have being sold out.

I didn't realise there were noise issues.
Hopefully all involved will realise that the benefits of the event would far outweigh noise concerns and common sense will prevail. |

For 2006 Zandvoort has been granted 3 extra 'noise days'.
Since the A1GP weekend is 3 days...the race is safe. |
