Photographic Equipment Insurance [UK]
Hi all,
A good friend of mine has recently bought the Minolta Dynax7D DSLR and is generally very pleased with it. His camera outfit is worth around £2,000 now and wants me to ask you guys which insurance company you would recommend or use yourself, even better if they are camera insurance specialist. Thanks in advance. Terry |

Put it on the household isurance as a special high value item. Photographic gear on household policies are covered away from home as well.

does that include accidental damage and loss of earnings though? (only if you're earning from the camera, or trying to...)
I was insured with E & L (you'll get their leaflets in any major photo mag), but I'm avoiding them after hearing more on their reputation. My sister is an equine vet and the same company are notorious for not paying out on horse insurance cases. Different area, but the same company. I've had one camera insurerrecommended but i can't find the link yet. |

Mine includes any damage or theft, providing it is not left on view in a car (can be locked in a boot though). As I don't use my camera for my living I don't have to worry about loss of earnings. Pro photographer insurance would be totaly different.
BTW, I have also heard bad things about E&L from my wife and her horsey mates |

He would just need damage and theft covers, excluding the potential loss of earnings as the guy is just a leisure photographer and doesn't use it for his living.
