JamesC should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Mallory Photographic Rights

Has anyone ever shot at a track day at Mallory for a publication?

Apply in the same way as a press pass?

As others have told me from last year you will be ok. You might get threatened initally by "the" nasty man but...call the circuit before hand and you should be fine as long as you can prove that you are covering it for someone for which you may need to send a letter from the publication in question.

Cheers Baz. The nasty man worried me...

I've shot there before at a race - but wasnt sure if the track day would be any different...

An update to this; contacted the lovely Helen at Mallory - and she has forwarded my email on to Reilly studios. I shall update you as to what happens!

I spoke to Mr Reily at Mallory last week and he seemed ok with me after he learned who I was shooting for. I must admit there were a few new faces around and it does make you wonder who all these people a shooting for these days.

Where there? I only saw the usual supsects
Donington yesterday though was another matter

You have to be careful how you word any request to JR as I was refused the opportunity to shoot on a Wednesday in December of last year as my "client" was going to use the images for commercial gain..i.e. in brochures for their business

I presume by all this the 'casual' and/or not for profit photographer can take photos and put them online? Is this the same also for team websites or is that commercial and need a license?

I'm not too sure...I remember JR telling me last year that somebody had taken photos from a track day last year and put them on their website only to find themselves being served orders to take them down. I think the idea is that if you are a team and you need images from Mallory you should be approaching the resident snapper to arrange images

I know the names are often listed on sites but is there a specific person to ask at each site or just photo the main/media office listed for each track. I'm not in it for commercail gain just that other people might want to see them but I'm also not in it for a court order! :-D

I'm down at Brands again next week so if I need to send a letter is there somewhere I can drop it off when I get there, also is it circuit or series rights to the photography?

If you are behind the fence and are just putting images up and arent trying to sell them you'll should be ok, don't worry too much

Thank you Paul.

That's good then. Never have worried but thought I best check when you mentioned it! :-) Still if anyone asks me to take them down ever I would do.

Well I got an email off Mr Reilly today.

After Helen telling me to contact Reilly Studios - Reilly now tells me I need to get a season or day pass from Helen. I am most confused!

Far too late to organise now - most annoyed with myself.

Maybe I should just bring along my letter with me tomorrow and talk to him in person (I will be taking part anyway)

Well - didn't manage to sort out the photography - but my mate shot a few of me from the sidelines... not bad for his first proper effort at motorsport!

Tell you what - it's much more fun doing it than photographing it!

(sorry - blatant excuse to post a photo of myself!)
