strange they used a TS030 pic to show TS040 downforce figures...
anyway it would be great to compare 2014 TS040 downforce amount with 2013 TS030! just to check if 2014 cars produce more downforce even if narrower. |

I asked Geoff Brabham one time, "The Nissan NPT-91 reportedly produced near 7,000 lbs. of downforce and could theoretically be driven upside down at approximately 70 MPH. Have you ever thought of how that would be possible, and given the chance, would you have tried it?"
Brabham, "I never believed the figures that were tossed around so definitely NOT! But, I would of loved to have seen the engineers who spoke such dribble do it." Maybe, in a wind tunnel it could be simulated? But, at the cost of time in one, who would want to spend the time and money to prove such a thing? |

For what it's worth - Toyota circling 2017 WRC entry. No hybrids in the regs not a stumbling block for them.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/117176 I hope that means they can continue to tell the performance hybrid story in sportscars. And then something different in WRC. |

I recall that earlier this year it was said that a WRC programme would be an addition to the P1 efforts, no replacement.
Without hybrid in rallying it doesn't really fit the same marketing angle either. |

I'm not sure what they are marketing in the WRC. A 1.6T engine, and 4WD....hardly cutting edge is it? The Yaris isn't exactly jaw dropping...

About the wrc, they already have those rear drive gt-86's running, then have Sarrazin running in that Yaris tsst car. They may also be looking towards a powerplant for Formula E. |

Seems weird to do a Formula E powertrain as they are now pushing for Fuel cells with the Mirai (my personal opinion is that FCEV are just a huge gimmick and BEV are the future but whatever)

Kota Sera blog reports Toyota LMP1 (2012-2014) aero development chart.
Vertical axis means L/D. One scale marks seems to mean L/D 0.1. Three scale marks means 1 sec. http://serakota.blog.so-net.ne.jp/2014-12-18 |

I had a chance to chat with Lapierre yesterday during the combined "Les Suisses au Mans" / Rebellion Racing event at the Speedy Garage. Simply a great guy. He is evidently and understandably disappointed by Toyota's decision to sideline him after some "unlucky" events. I do hope that the current talks with Nissan will lead him to a race seat next year. After all, he is one of a few drivers out there having valuable experience behind the wheel of an LMP1-H car. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Someone somewhere on here was pretty convinced Lapierre was not going to Nissan. Unless of course that was Lapierre incognito...

According to Hisatake Murata,
the weight of 2014 Toyota TS040 is 900kg. (Front motor is 30kg, Engine is 105kg/ not 100kg according to Motor Fan magazine) http://autoprove.net/2014/12/55134.html |

Now that's new (to me at least). Thanks for the information.
The weight concerns at the start of the season become much clearer now. Presumably Porsche had a similar dilemma with the 919. But going slightly overweight to get into the higher ERS class has proven to be the correct choice. |

Does the engine weight include the rear electric motor, or just the normal engine?
Also, does that 900kg include ballast or is that the weight without the driver and other things that the ACO discounts onboard? |

in 2012 there was more than one rumor about the real weight of the r18 etron, something like 910-912kg. Infact in 2013 because of lmp1 bop the min. weight for audi and toyota was increased to 915kg and none complained about that. Because of the hybrid hardware and because of the mandatory ballast for the min. drivers avarage weight, it's very unlikely that audi, porsche and toyota had a real min. weight of 870kg. No surprise at all.
Anyway, meanwhile on twitter... http://www.endurance-info.com/fr/hum...t-sur-twitter/ |

need to say also that 908HDi was usually heavier than mandatory 930kg, but had always more torque and power than audi, both using the same kind of engine and displacement. If porsche and toyota (and who knows nissan) will step up to 8MJ, will be a mess to pack everything in about 900kg

30kg is huge, and 2mj extra ain't even close enough to offset that. Lighter weight improves everything - acceleration, cornering, fuel economy (and that means more power with the new rules), tire life, and even top speed to a lesser degree.
http://i.imgur.com/aVZ731z.jpg Here Kinoshita says that they achieved 870kg target without compromising weight distribution, and that if the minimum weight stayed 915kg they would have been in the 8MJ class this year already. |
