Michael Schumacher to race kart in world championship

From www.kartoz.com.au

Schumacher to karts - NO HOAX!
With the final round of the World FSA Championships at his local Kerpen (Germany) circuit, multiple world F1 Champion Michael Schumacher is rumoured to be returning to karts for a crack at the World Championship decider.

The final round of the FSA World titles is scheduled for October 28, two whole weeks after the final round of the 2001 Formula One World Championships, an event which has been well and truly settled in Ferraris and Schumachers favour, so it doens't interfere with Schumachers passion. Another point of note is that CRG's Tonio Liuzzi looks to have all but wrapped up this years title leaving Tony Kart in the race for promotional honours, Schumachers return would only bolster their appeal.

So what truth is there to this rumour, well more than that of April 1 this year about Schumachers run in a round of the Shifter Kart Championships in the states, we here that there are as many as eight water-cooled Vortex engines being prepared for the World Champ. The world waits...

I agree..if this is for real and I certainly hope that it is it would be great to see..Michael is awesome in a kart and Im sure some of the current hotshots out there would love to have a crack at the 4 time world champ.

again I must stress that this is only a rumor and nothing has been officially announced but it sure would be excellent to see.

I would love to see it!!!!!!!!!!! they'd have to bend the rules (reserve drivers have to be under 22 and entered at the beginning of the year i think) but it would be worth it. Team MBM is run by Keke Rosberg who manages Hakkinen but he'd have to kick out his son so unlikely but it would be good to see that as well

If you go to the chat forum on http://www.karting.co.uk/notice there's a thread on there about it. Schumy is replacing Franck Perera and CRG also reportedly have an F1 driver but the source is sworn to secrecy about who it is

Did I not see the date as April 1st in an earlier thread??? If so, then me thinks you have been hoaxed.

well spotted stephen ..but i was making reference to another story that came out on April fools day earlier this year that claimed that Michael was giving up F1 for karting ..hardly believeable at all ..but this one so far seems to be legit and in time we will find out if it is true or not

Wow, first Karting post!!!

Schumi topped qualifying in his group, but they were in the wet, so made to look slow compared to the other group who got to run in the dry. Thsus he lined up 22nd - how long since he's been that far back?!
Anyway, race details are a bit sketchy at the mo - I'm sure we'll hear more soon - but he wound up 3rd as far as I know.
