Williams,RBR - Renault/Ferrari did Webber make the right move?

well Williams got in the points at shanghi and RBR missed out (probably because Massa the mature racer went into hiding and Massa the Basher showed its ugly head again) and williams ae having a reasonable finish to the year (as they usually do) at least the mechanichal faliure's have gone and with a string of consistant 10th (midfield) places webber has done well.

but with the faster Toyota engine will Williams be more competitive or will they be midfield like the factory team with a good engine but crap aero and only be competitive at monaco and the other few tracks they are competitive at?

will Newey make a better car for RBR aero wise and will they get the renault as Newey wants or will they be stuck with the (apparently rev reduced ) Ferrari and will they be up front or like williams still midfield with a good engine?

so did he make the right decision by moving to RBR or would he have been better off staying with Williams?

i think Newey can make a decnt car with either engine but a bit better one with a renault as he did want the renault engine so i think MW made the right decision.

I get the impression that Mark and the Williams team have proberbly had enough of each other and whoever has the better package next season is irrelevant.

I dont think theres any point worrying about it as what we see as spectators isnt the real picture.

Firstly, whilst Webber finished ahead of Coulthard on the weekend, Dornbos had a faster lap time than either of them.

Webber was only ahead because Coulthards Red Bull was too damaged to defend at the hairpin properly.

Red Bull have given up on the RB2, all their efforts have gone into the RB3 for quite some time. If Williams are only just beating a car that has recieved little development when theyve brought a new aero package then theyre still not making that much ground.

The Toyota engine next year wont necessarily be better than the Cosworth. The Cosworth might be more powerful, but the Toyota may have advantages elsewhere. The main reason Williams went with Toyota was for the commercial benefits.

Good and only decision: 1. Toyota engine is no better than Cosworth (shame theyre going to be out), so nothing new at Williams. 2. Current RBR isnt a 'Newey' car (its the old Jag, tweaked a bit), plus its a compromise anyway (Ferrari cooling requirements are apparently excessive and affect aero badly). Newey car, Renault engine, 'control' tyres: It could just be the inspired choice of the year.

And williams will most likely do their usual effort during the year of starting relatively strongly, botch up a aero/chassis change for the European season, and then finally work out what went wrong in time for the last few races of the year.

highly doubt DC is gonna be much of a challenge for him. so that part of the story isnt that ideal, first of all it's good to be pushed, makes you go faster, and secondly even if he trashes DC, what is it goin to prove? I mean who couldnt beat DC yet? all of his team-mate did, even Klien was definetely cappable doing so, if it wasnt for the technical problems he did it actually.

i think its a shame Flav didnt call Webber to team Fisi in the first place, but once it didnt happen, he shoulda stayed with Williams, Patrick Head is deffinetely in Newey's league, and the vast majority of the Williams technical problems this year were engine related, that will get sorted with Toyota, im sure. But most importantly, Sir Frank knew its gonna be a season to forget, so he was happy to sacrify it for the sake of learning the Bridgestones, and actually building a car around those tires, so that is gonna be a huge advantage for them. We dont know just how bad Michelin teams are goin to struggle next year, I think very... especially the private ones that dont have the resources to react to changes quickly and effectively

were they, That is surprising since they geneally used the same motor after each DNF, From memory there have only been 2 engines go, less than most, including Toyota.
Ancillaries, have been the bugbear, especially hydraulics as well as packaging. They are Williams responsibility.

Certainly Webber did the right move. It's hard to say what\how Williams will be next season, while RBR is making progress as a whole. I think we must look at the big picture and evaluate things in the long run.

They are (slow) - when theyre not in a Ferrari. As Joe Saward has commented (in MN) when did a Ferrari customer team ever win a GP? Never ......... case closed. Renault on the other hand have supplied race winning engines to other teams in the past. Know which Id rather have sizzle.

Webber's undoubtedly made the right move. Williams look likely to move sideways, whereas Red Bull will have a full Newey car and probably an improved engine. Their strong late-season performances mean nothing if they will not build on it at the start of next season - look how far backwards they went from late 2004 to early 2005.

Right move for Webber, big season for Williams. Another poor season and i think it will be all over for them as they will not be able to attract the backing to run at the front. Once your on the slope there is only one way to go.!!

i personally think that M.W to Red Bull is a good move. Renault power could be a BIG deciding factor in wether it will be a good car or not, but lets all remember that newey designed all the WINNING williams-renault's of the 90's. AND they were cars
