Changing of the guard? Alonso and Raikkonen

It appears that Alonso and Raikkonen are getting on top of their cars, and could assert a marginal pace advantage over their team-mates.

We may well see these guys consistently placing higher than Hamilton and Massa. I still think they are all fairly closely matched on talent, particularly Alonso and Hamilton. I think Raikkonen's speed over Massa is starting to show, although Massa drove a top race today.

Alonso hasn't been a million miles away from Lewis in any case, that one will ebb and flow throughout the season I guess.

At Ferrari, it is unclear. Kimi has had the two wins, but it could possibly have been Massa getting those were it not for some traffic in France and the stall today.

Whatever, it is going to be some second half of the season with those four! Could be another 2003 in the works here.

Not changing of the guard as such. The competition is close and you can only have one winner each race.

It's all nice and close, which is what counts. Like last year Ferrari are giving chase, and Kimi looks like the man suddenly back in form.

I cant see a significant gap forming between the McLaren pair. Kimi and Massa though i can see them start to spread out if Kimi can keep motivated

I think Massa was on Kimi's pace today. But maybe, just maybe, Alonso will wake up now.

I don't see that at all, Kimi is doing what was expected but Massa is right up there with him if not better. Hamilton didn't have a car to win, but Alonso was no better.

To me at least, Kimi and Alonso were always going to be the two drivers that would take over at the top after Schumacher retired. Nothing there has changed - it's just taken half a season for them to re-establish their credentials.

What has changed is that Massa has developed more than many (except Michael and a few others at Ferrari) expected, and - of course - we have the new prodigy.

Kimi and Alonso are still top dogs, but Massa and Hamilton are making sure they won't have it all their own way.

And just to add to the fun, Kubic's waiting in the wings to join the fun just as soon as he gets the car (which at this rate he won't need to change teams for).

So instead of one or two drivers at the top of the tree, we potentially have five or six.

And that, my friends, is FANTASTIC !!

Alonso and Raikkonen are number one drivers for a reason. Both are still at the top of their game. They've probably had more difficulties this year than they would have envisioned though...

Alonso always said that it'd be mid-season before he was truly on top of the car. Could it be that he and Kimi have now fully adapted their style to the Bridgestone rubber and are about to re-assert their top-dog status? Who knows? It's going to be thrilling finding out.
