ORECA launches entry-level prototype
Looks quite interesting. I know how divided the community is on PC and prototype racing of that sort, but for what I think is a proving ground for young talent, I'm quite impressed with what's been said and that the PC class 'should' get a fresh look

We are already talking about this here.
And as of now this isn't going to replace the PCs (how many PCs are there left in Europe, anyway?) but to run in VdeV and the Speed Euro Series. |

So, another one-make spec series ala Imsa Lites, Sports 2000, and LMPC.
Yay? |

if it's for a one-make series, I'd agree with you, but to the best of my knowledge CN class is open chassis. No idea about engines, but I think that's open too, 2 litres max.

Open in theory. Everybody and their dog uses Honda engines, though. VTEC kicking in must be quite spectacular in a car like that, yo!

It seems that Oreca is rolling out their CN car... But the question is, will the CN class have more than one chassis manufacturer?

The rules of the CN class says that the prototypes should have a 14" wheel diameter, exactly the same as F3.
For that reason and much more the CN group has the same cost by race than a Clio cup car (or less). Cheap tyres, cheap engines, cheap parts, same speed of a GT2/GT3. For that reason there a re a lot of national CN championships in europe (germany, france, italy, spain.... etc) |

Probably that´s the correct size, but it seems that rule is not longer avaliable because it´s not present on the new 2012 rules
Surprisingly the wankel engines are legal http://argent.fia.com/web/fia-public...9%20(2012).pdf |

Good thing rotaries are allowed on this class. Anyway, since the CN class has the same speed as a GT2/GT3 car, I think it's slower than an F3 car.
And also, I hope Riley will join this class too in the future while Grand-Am just ditch their DPs and embrace the CN class. |

National series, VdeV, Speedseries usually run on Group N Spec 2.0L normal aspirated engines, i.e. everybody runs on 2.0L "Type-R" Honda engines.
But, in Hillclimb championships they can run in bigger, prototype engines, like 3.0 V8 similar those used in old F3000 or F. Nippon, many times faster then this cars. |

They also are allowed 'open' engines in the German/Austrian series... that one isn't strictly CN,though, anyway. Sometimes Mirco Schultis even brings out his LMPC-Oreca.
