Elms is working just fine without lmp1. The wec is not super expensive because of travel costs. ALMS is gone and we know why TUSC dont allow lmp1. Theres more 'factories' in the wec than f1 Mercedes McLaren and Red Bull are the only 'factory' teams not also in wec. The problem isnt the factory teams. Its the bop for the privateers. If you want small teams with no new tech like hybrids then elms is for you. Not a world championship.

I wasn't talking about the factories in the bit you quoted, only privateers, so I don't know what the point you have there. By 'F1 mentality' I meant that if you want to run P1 today at all there is only one place in the world to do so. You have no other options.

USCC (and AsLMS) might be lost causes but there is no real reason for ELMS not to have them. LMP2 grid would likely shrink by a few, but back in 2011 when P1 was still around the numbers were pretty much the same as they were now anyway, maybe two cars less or something. Now, the championship might be working fine without them itself (if one is into that sort of thing) but is LMP1 privateer working fine without ELMS... no I don't think it is.

Because, as you said, for "small teams with no hybrid systems" WEC really shouldn't be isn't the ideal place. Now are teams like Rebellion and Lotus-Kodewa-whatever 'small teams'? Well no, not technically, they are above everything P2 (with the possible exception of Oak Racing) and have large enough resources to do full seasons in WEC. But when such large amount of BoP is 'required' to keep them up to pace with the factories - while the gap is still at 5-8 seconds at LM per lap - you have to question how big are they really. And currently both of those teams tick the "no hybrids" box as well, which is something they chose to do.

So if they get fed up, or if there are other people wanting to run LMP1 but not with such huge budgets, they cannot go to ELMS, or anywhere else, because they aren't allowed, unless they bin their expensive P1s and go to lower category.

The only other option besides WEC is to try to do LM-only season (with maybe few quest appearances somewhere), and do all the work in private testing. ACO would most certainly still grant you Le Mans entry because they have so few of them running anyway. It's the only category where that is realistically possible...

You said "run behind factories". So either youre implying that the wec needs them to survive, or the series is geared towards them. I countered both points. You blame bop when I just said the same thing. So youre agreeing with me. Theres no argument needed between us. We should remember Rebellion was only in its second race with the R One, no one expected them to be doing anywhere close to the works lmp1's. 800kg now, larger fuel tanks, faster refuelling, more fuel flow... it looks like theyre catering to them a lot more than years past.

Theres teams wanting to do lmp1, but held off due to the diesel favortism. Its a much more approachable set of rules now. The problem isnt factory cars. Or having mostly those teams. Who makes the GT's? Who makes the lmp engines? It aint privateers As for the 'No hybrid', its mostly because the lack of expertise in that area and lack of competitive off the shelf packages. Imo, 800kg with unlimited fuel flow sounds great. Should be like old lmp2 in the alms.

There have been many P1 privateer chassis and more notably engine options available for this new format but no customers to run them. I don't actually blame BoP (for once ) for the lack of interest but the lack of opportunity to run them anywhere but in this one series. It's the only ACO category to do so.

And as for them running behind the factories, it's just inevitability, not the fault of BoP. Even if ACO trimmed them down to 7XXkgs or whatever I'd see the Ls lacking in pace. Which, in a way, they should because while the aim of the organizers should be to provide reasonable opportunity for them to strike "when factories thumble", they shouldn't be made artificially as fast as the factories "just because". There'd be no merit in that. Mr Beaumesnil has been saying this as well for some time now

With former ALMS P2 it was different as anyone, (effectively) factory or privateer could enter that, but LMP1-L is strictly just privateers.

Also while diesels where obviously ludicrously ahead few years ago you still had 20 car grids... I'd say primaly cause you could run them all around the globe, also in races where diesels weren't present (and as for LM, well it's LM so you know)

Anyway all of this is just nitpicking, I guess we agree on some principles It's just the ELMS bit that makes me grind a bit

BoP changes for Corvette and Aston. But more interesting, at least one team is considering to run a Corvette at Austin.

Talking about the LMP1-L EoT adjustments, what is the objective performance target being contemplated by the ACO-FIA ? Where do they ultimately want to see the LMP1-L cars with respect to the LMP1-H cars, bearing in mind that there is supposed to be a 4 sec/lap performance difference at LM between a 2 MJ and an 8 MJ LMP1-H ?

Excellent news, and perhaps an indicator that Corvette's "yeah, we might do that one day" rhetoric on the WEC might actually have something in it.

It's also possible that it's a handy way to get a lot more data for the TUSC race with twice as many practice sessions. Good news though.

It only just struck me that the next race is STILL a month and a half away. It has been so long now since Le Mans my mind is expecting it to be very soon. Only just hit me just how long that break is.

Technically, Corvette Racing will field three cars in Austin. Two in TUSC round, and one former testbed GTE car for WEC race afterwards.

Would it be a good idea if one of the TUSC Corvette Racing C7.R entered in the 6 Hours at Austin instead of using a spare chassis?

14 weeks, an eternity!
And yet people complain about TUSC's Le Mans break of around 4 weeks, go figure.

Well, TUSC has a break of almost 2 months between daytona and sebring.
Anyway smart move for P&M, the two main cars will run only for 2H and 45min; the day after, they can run the test chassis without think too much... the engine can blow, the car can crash etc... it never mind

The Corvette boys should be (extra) careful at Road America and VIR then, damaging one of their cars could jeopardize their Austin scenario.

Didn't someone say that P&M are running chassis 002 and 003 in TUSC right now and 001 would be brought out for Austin (although none of us knew why when that was mentioned)?
