Robin Plummer should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Lawrence Gibson

Famous Metro 6R4 driver. Is he related the other 6R4 driver of the past Rib Gibson?

Also other than the bi-turbo 2.3 version that Gollup used of this type of car. There has been 3.5, 3.6, 3.8 NA versions of this engine how much power did they get out of it because it must have been a lot less than it's rival turbo engines.

Nope he isnt related to rob gibson. Lawrence is irish as well. As for the power then i will get the good old history books out tommorow. I belive the 3.5 produced around 460 - 480bhp. Not that much.

Robin, you are fogetting one type of engine and that was the two twin turbo units thyat Dagfinn Larsen prepared long before Golop and Cliff Humphries went that route.
Dagfin himself had a 2.3 like Will's and scored some good A final results with it. That car went to Jorma Kovanen I think.
But the real banger was the 2.8 BiTurb he built for Arne Rasmushagen. That was a flyer and got Arne very close to a few wins, even at Lydden when Alamake shoved Schie up the wall.
That car had silly power and was later used by Bengt Wiklund who blew no end of shafts on it.
On another note I have heard many rumours about power for Metro's. The most I ever heard for a 3.8 was about 500 for Palmers state of the art Goodmans jobbie.
I think Lawrence has a couple of cars, he has flogged one to anotehr Irishman.
As for N/A cars. I was speaking to Helmut Holfeld a few years ago and he told me about Karl Cleary's car. Over four litres and silly power, but he uses it for sprinting and stuff after retiring from rallycross. Nearly beat Helmut when he had the 306 so must have been quick.
Hope this helps!!

Rasmushagen and Larsen were team-mates weren't they. Im sure Tore H Bratlie had a nutter of a 6R4 as well that he used at Pikes Peak then bought it over for the GP, Im sure that was 650hp twin-turbo. Gollops was still the ultimate 6R4, watching it in 92 it was like it went round on rails, possibly the most well sorted rallycross car to date.

Think you are right Barrie. Bratlie did have a twin turbo.
B
Got an old 86 video and Larsen is in a turbo Simca or something, looks amazing.
And Arild Martinsen of 800bhp M3 fame in a Talbot Lotus turbo that sounded incredible

Jeez, I can see it is gonna be expensive for me on here. So many tapes to buy off people.
The tape I have is actually the 85 season review. Then I have all the reviews from 87-93, but not the individual round ones you used to be able to get.
Not got any BBC footage anymore, but would love to get some copies from people who have the facility to do it!!
