Jerry Ledwith Announces Retirement from Gurston
Many drivers and marshals on this forum will be familiar with Jerry Ledwith, long time Top Paddock supremo at Gurston. This weekend he announced his impending retirement after the last meeting of the season. All who know him will be sad to see him go and will miss his unique style, sunny disposition and merry quips. His skill at persuading drivers to park correctly in the limited space available was legendary, and he managed to make a very difficult job look easy.
A small presentation was made to Jerry on Sunday, which was received with his customary good grace. Jerry intends to spend his retirement on the water at the helm of a narrow boat - our commiserations go out to lock keepers everywhere! |

Hadn't met him until the presentation, but he seemed a real good character. Loved the message on the trophy which really showed the esteem in which he's clearly held. Happy retirement, Jerry.

no disrespect to any of the marshals at any meeting cos I loves you all but Jerry was the best top paddock marshal that I have met. This was mainly due to the way if you had had a bad run he would pick you up but if you arrived in the top paddock too cocky then by god he could and would bring you down to earth again in his own way.
One meeting at gurston some time ago they put Jerry in the bottom paddock and the look on faces when over the tanoy calling first batch to the line came Jerry's voice telling us in no uncertain terms that if we didnt get the cars up to the line then we could all bugger off home. He was posted in the top paddock for the sunday and never came back down. It's going to be quite without you Jerry and We both wish you all the very best for the future. Come back and see us sometime though. Ben Dee PS We already have a new top paddock marshal that is stamping thier mark on the gurston scene and very welcome you are too |

Jerry presented the prizes at the final gurston last sunday and has promised to come back to see us sometime. He even threatened to sail the narrow boat into the top paddock. Top man who will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all
