It's the Lexus LF-A. Aerodynamics do look a little bit different than the earlier pictures from this car.

The overall shape looks so much nicer than that VLN-spec car. I just hope it still comes with that V10 sountrack that the road car has

With all the talk about new GTE manufacturers I'd always written off the idea of it being Toyota.
Would be amazing to get this Lexus in the series. There's no way this is a potential (even more) extreme road-going variant is there? |

Some earlier pictures of the the full size car as comparison. This development car had a slightly different bonnet and a vertical turning vane in front on the front tyre. |

The wheel arches seem wider on the wind-tunnel model. Especially at the rear: smoother and more integrated into the body.

The car seems to have a more compact design on the whole and a shortened bodywork...

More positive news from Japan as YGK/Tokai University continue development on their engine and hybrid system.
Looks interesting, especially the test car. http://www.endurance-info.com/versio...nce-14184.html |

A hint that that LFA is a GTE, is indeed the wider body. The older pictures are from the first iteration of the car, and subsequently built to the older GTE rules, before the wider bodies.

How would it work in terms of cost then if this is indeed a GTE? Isn't it a bit upper echelon in terms of price?

I was thinking the same thing. I believe the road car cost extensively more than an average GTE chassis. I suppose in the case the race car is not as advanced however...

The road car costs 380,000 U.S. dollars. The Nurburgring edition is around $425,000. The cars that raced at the VLN races and N24 were just modified street cars. They retained the same suspension chassis engine (restricted) etc. They did weigh over 1400kg though, but were only 10 seconds off the pace of the GT3's. I have no clue how much that would cost. If you doubled the value it could be around 700k! Not sure how that would compare but doesn't sound cheap.

It doesn't seem like the sort of thing you could feasibly sell to customers unless they are prepared to make a loss on every car.

Akira Iida is a Toyota driver. He tweeted the photo. So he knows the inside scoop but all he let on so far is that this is his 'next challenge'. He's piloted the LFA in the N24 races, and he's driving the Gazoo GT-86 Toyota's there also.

According to DSC the LFA GTE will race at the N24 in 2013 with Iida as one of the drivers under Gazoo Racing.
