Good for Joey (I think?) He was the most dominant BMW pilot in the ALMS last year, hope he does well in DTM.

Agreed. The announcement came as a bit of a surprise to me.

Should be interesting to see who will fill the now vacated seat at RLL.
Certainly a hard act to follow.

My guess would be Billy Johnson... he was Auberlen's fill in Turner's Grand Am BMWs when the two series clashed and he did quite a competent job there. And with Turner's close connections to BMWNA he really should have a shoe in the door there.

Thats like suggesting Bahrain and Zuhai will sell out!
They had sold five cars at launch, with a battle over who would get the last one, the only publically known buyer was Jota.

Now all AMR's efforts are with the GTE, if it proves competitive and reliable, I can imagine they'll sell quite a few.

Who knows, depending on how he does BMW may keep him in Germany for a couple years. No doubt he belongs in the American series, as he would be a better asset there marketing-wise.

With Joey Hand´s signing as BMW´s 5th DTM driver RLL needs (at least) one new driver for their 2012 squad. I can think of Jorg Muller being one the candidates (assuming he won´t land the last DTM drive, Werner and Muller also still in the running for that one). Any other possible candidates?

Still in question as to whether it's a Lola or Oak-Pescarolo chassis they go for (personally hoping for the latter).

Original Speed story is here.
If they go for the Oak Pescarolo it will be powered by Nissan. In case of Lola it will be Honda.

Risi likely to do Sebring only this year, with Grand Am full season. Not 100% confirmed yet.

It's a shame that Risi are leaving. They had one bad season but with the increased competition, every mistake counts and luck didn't help them either. I guess ESM will be the only Ferrari team in the ALMS next year .

Will Risi take Melo along with him or will Melo go back to Europe and possibly drive in the WEC or ELMS?

If that is true, it remains to be seen if their entry is accepted (due to large number of entries expected).

Pappas did mention the Roush-Yates Ford by name, so that remains a possibility if they go Lola.

If we assume that rumor is correct, what makes Risi think that they will get an entry at Sebring? The 30 allotted spots may be filled by full-time teams. I guess it depends on how the ALMS/WEC deals with the Challenge class situation, but anyway, I'm not if one-offs will get too many opportunities. The DeltaWang may get one of the spots as well. We'll see.

It's not entirely guaranteed that the WEC will get to 30 for Sebring.

AF Corse?

Aston Martin?
Felbermayr? (Will Porsche rely on their ALMS teams for Sebring?)
Felbermayr?
Manthey??? (See Felbermayr, if Manthey even happens.)
BMW (likely to rely on RLLR for Sebring if they have a WEC program)
BMW (see above)

Felbermayr?
AF Corse?

That is how I come up with 30 for the WEC, and there are a whole lot of question marks. (There are a few teams above that might bring seconds that aren't listed, and some that I have twice that might not bring two, let alone one to Sebring.)

So perhaps American teams wanting entries to Sebring will be able to slot in. Depending of course, on how large the full season ALMS grid is and if all ALMS teams make it to Sebring with both barrels.

There is seemingly a two-car Lola squad for the WEC to be announced in the New Year. Plus HK Technik Motorsport who I believe have confirmed their intention in an OAK-Nissan. Maybe Pegasus too? So that's LMP2.

Rebellion might have two cars in LMP1. Aston have a confirmed two-car effort in GTE-Pro. Still not a confirmed 30 though.

I'd like to see Risi get in. I'm sure they will be top of the list for entries from outside either series.

So, apparently reading message boards and making up stuff counts as journalism now?

Holy god what an awful article.

"Well, it's 5 teams, well, only one team confirmed, and this team no longer exists, but they might come back. This team closed its doors and said absolutely nothing about running in this series, but they might!"

Seriously, it reads like it was written by a 15 year old.

Unlike very many posts on the various forums, JD actually talks to crew members, team owners, and drivers. His readers have requested he produce articles on the subject of giving his best guess at grid sizes for various championships based on what he has heard.

Also, yeah the AutoCon and Newman/Haas rumors are funny because they have come about after the team had reportedly "closed their doors." As far as the AutoCon rumor is concerned, the drivers are working to bring the team back without its former owner Mike Lewis. NHR's Brian Lisles specifically states in this article that the rumors of their demise are incorrect (rather, that the story they'd closed their doors was incorrect). They have ended their IndyCar career and pared the team down, but are still a sizable organization trying to find a way to make money in American racing, whether it be Indy Lights or the ALMS.

So while some of the rumors are old and have made it to the boards, John is simply summing up what appears to be in the works this off-season. It's actually reassuring to read it in a Dagys article than read it on the forums, no matter how much I trust the poster.

Exactly, and someone who is a professional journalist is going to have 10x the contacts and sources as a normal person - BUT even I knew Black Swan was going LMP2 something like two weeks before it was announced, and that's just because a friend of a friend works for the team. So if I can find that stuff out, I'd imagine his contacts at places like Newman Haas will yield some good solid info. Yeah they're rumors, but like many things, a grain a truth is to be found in nearly all of them.

Agreed, and like joeb said above, Dagys made it clear it was a speculative article. John Dagys is still a good journalist, and one of the few sports car journalists we have in America. Also, news papers have editorials, and they make it clear that they are opinion pieces, as opposed to "news" which is supposed to be effectively the retelling of a factual event. (Though it is rarely that.)
