GP3 wet weather rules inconsistancies
Three times in the past year GP3 have seen a sudden rain shower just before the race start, and officials have taken 3 different approaches. Last year the drivers had to start the race as scheduled, pitting on the warm-up lap if they felt their tyre choice was wrong. Silverstone this year, start delayed. And now Hockenheim, race starts under the safety car, forcing those who were on slicks to pit - just before the red flag comes out. Do the rules not still allow for a complete restart, reverting to the original grid positions drivers had earnt?
And what about some consistency? Is this all part of the tendency that we no longer see real starts in full-wet conditions for supposed safety reasons? |

I was very surprised they started the race behind the safety car and let a number of drivers start on slicks. They didn't need to start behind the safety car.
How many racing laps were there in the GP3 races this weekend? No more than 5 across both races. |

I'm glad I'm not the only one to think that Race 1 Safety car period was ludicrous. I'm all for safety but you either race in the rain or you don't, like the oval boys, going round and around for lap after lap when it's clear there's a dry line developing was just plain daft.
Not only is it not much fun for spectators if I were paying €20,000 or whatever it is to race I would also be less than impressed. |

Machado should be fit for the next weekend according to the GP3 twitter feed. No word on Piria. That was a nasty and very unlucky crash.

piria's alright too, they're just keeping her in overnight to make sure - according to her twitter.
i think the key word is "consistency". either treat them all as princesses who don't want to get their shoes wet, or trust that nobody will do anything daft and they'll drive according to the conditions. one or the other - not both. |

I watched the 2nd race and I have never seen a worse race (if you can call it that) I think that a red flag needed to be put out if the injuries were bad but watching a field of cars following a pace car with only 2 laps of racing is terrible. Whoever was the commentator in the event would not even call it a race in the end and struggled to describe what it was. I would rather have them delay the race to after the F1 if it is possible. |
