Maybe interesting for Ferrari is the switch to biofuel by A1GP in the future. This can get them an advantage if F1 switches to biofuel too.

Then you agree with my point!
If Lola lose the contract is no good news for them, is it?

Then, about prestige comparisons with other companies, this is maybe not the right thread, but the term of comparison, in this case is not Lola Vs Dallara, but Lola vs Ferrari...

Lola's F1 attempt practically killed it, fortunatly someone (whose name escapes me at the moment) revived it.

Lola has however, since gone on to do one BTCC car, several LMPs, and is currently trying to expand away from motorsport with a composites business

Lola are definitely not '??' in my books! And if you want to value them as 'prestigious' then it's not their current contracts but their past ones too. Lola aren't lacking there.

It was Martin Birrane.

I'm inclined to agree; whilst it is true that Dallara have a much more diverse product range at the moment, Lola's past reputation does give them a certain prestige. That said, I suspect that if A1GP are keen to break into the mass market, a name such as Ferrari is likely to pay dividends.

I hear that the deal has been signed for Ferrari to supply chassis and engine to A1GP from 08-09 onwards.

If the new Ferrari cars can give 700bhp then it will sure blow GP2 away.

Well if they want to break into the mass market, they need better TV output for a start! Priorities!

True. However, it is a possibility that a Ferrari connection may make it easier to attract more media attention due to the presence of such a household name.

I likes your thinking, Kipper. However the opposite is also true - a household name is easier to attract with more media attention.

I look forward to see what happens with this one.

It seems the deal is done - http://www.a1nzl.com/

It is not only engines but chassis design as well, and not only A1GP but also a new regional A2GP...

Autosport confirmed that Ferrari will supply engines to A1GP for 6 years, and provide consultation to chassis design.

I think A1GP scored some major plus points with this deal. The start for A1GP wasnt' as great an impact as their owners would have hoped, and Ferrari's name association would give A1GP a huge image boost, bringing it clear ahead of the GP2-like series and (probably) putting it in the elite group of just under F1.

A1GP World Cup of Motorsport and Ferrari Announce Landmark Partnership

Ferrari to supply engines in long term A1GP partnership deal as well as design chassis and consult on manufacture for new car in Season Four. Ferrari to supply engines to new A2GP Series in Season Five

London, Great Britain: A1GP Chairman, Tony Teixeira, has announced a truly historic and ground breaking partnership between Ferrari and the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. Ferrari signed a six-year agreement to manufacture and supply all A1GP engines for this unique series and will design and consult on the manufacture of all A1GP car chassis for use inSeason Four (2008/09). The partnership with Ferrari extends to an exclusive licensing agreement for all A1GP merchandise to use the Ferrari name and phrase ‘Powered by Ferrari’ from January 2008.

Commenting on the momentous deal, Tony Teixeira said: ‘Partnering with a world-class organisation like Ferrari will officially position A1GP as one of the most significant motorsport series’ in the world.’The introduction of A2GP was also announced today, a regional single-seat racing car series developed by A1GP to begin testing in 2009. Ferrari will be integral to the growth of the new series and will again supply all engines and design and consult on the manufacture of the new chassis. A1GP also maintained its commitment to commercial partners and fans as a principal factor in confirming the partnership. ‘Ferrari will add significant value to our brand and in our opinion there is no better partner to progress the series,’ adds Mr Teixeira.‘We will be meeting with our commercial partners over the next few weeks to discuss the multitude of exciting opportunities that this partnership presents.’Finally Tony Teixeira notes; ‘Ferrari has a global presence through its dealer network. We will be working closely with them to ensure that they are a part of every A1GP World Cup of Motorsport event.’

What was the last time Ferrari supplied engines to no-F1 single seater series? 2-litre Dino V8 at the 70's?

While I am no Ferrari fan I agree that this will instantly improve A1GP's brand image, this plus the length of the deal (6 years!) will encourage sponsors to climb on board.

Ferrari F1 merchandising is big business, if they piggy-back on that merchandising income should significantly increase as well.

Unfortunately no bank will give you loans if you present them your past contracts; nor they can help you pay wages and providers...

back to topic, between Lola and Ferrari there is no comparison.

Great news for A1 GP, I will be very interested to see what the new car looks like. I wonder too how much power the cars will have, the 700-750bhp figure was being thrown around at the beginning of the year, if that is the case will A1 GP become a more attractive prospect than GP2 for drivers given that GP2 cars will have around 650bhp?
