Toyota may've picked them up for more than 1 reason. The facilities are big enough for multiple operations to take place. Not just Toyota is using them either. I'm not sure how it works, but Ferrari even used their wind tunnel. I don't know if that information is only gathered by Ferrari, but from other teams in F1 using them, Toyota may have some serious feedback.

Open?
Considering the too many Toyota-Dome link rumours over the years not sure if I believe this one. |

I don't believe it either. Why would they go for an open car instead of a coupe? The consensus is that the LMP1 car will be designed/is being designed by TMG in Cologne, not by Dome in Japan.

Maybe it is just a testbed? Although in that case, why not use the S102? Or the Lola? Maybe it is really a LMP2? Yeah, I agree that it does not make a lot of sense, although I just posted here (I think this thread) a couple of days ago wondering about the status of the Dome-Toyota/Nissan rumors.

Maybe they already played around with the Dome Coupe and are now testing an open car for reference?
I don't know who it was, but didn't one of the top brass from Peugeot say during LM-week that there is no difference in performance between open and closed cars? |

EDIT: Perhaps TMG is doing some development work and one of the Lolas (or the closed Dome) were not available? It seems unlikely that TMG would not have some cars at their disposal, but who knows. |

They are covering all the possibilities. The testing should cover all the option´s, and IMO they are testing a new engine and a old car does not attract much attention!!!

Isn't it S101.5?
There was a rumor that Toyota was testing the engine with S101.5 before. |

Be nice if some American manufacturers would follow them .
What American car manufacturers actually do run an international series ? |

I also am under the opinion that they are probably testing a new engine (poss. hybrid drivetrain) in a car that already has a baseline for testing. Then move the tested drivetrain into a new car after the drivetrain bugs have been ironed out. That same way of thinking would have saved Aston Martin some headaches for sure... All speculation at this time but I am very happy Dome is involved to some degree. I have wanted Dome and Epsilon + Embassy to come back with some factory help/$ and a "world championship" may just be the right bait to see it happen...

Details are in the Toyota thread, but basically Toyota have been involved in the S101.5, S102 and now a new car, no details on it being open or closed.
ACO also say four manufacturers are looking to enter P1. |

The only hint was a couple of these were large manufacturers.
Would Hyundai or Mazda be considered small? |

Way out of left field, but I've read something today about BMW thinking about their own Diesel-Prototype...

Mazda confirmed P2 from the mouth of Mr. Patrick Dempsey, who knows about P1 though. I wouldn't consider Hyundai small either. They're actually pretty big, and rich. This Toyota story piques my interest most.
