Pikes Peak
I almost forgot this year, but Dayraut came 3rd with a respectable time of 10:17.707... Not bad!
1: Nobuhiro Tajima 09:51.278 2: Rhys Millen 10:09.242 3: Jean Philippe Dayraut 10:17.707 I couldn't find any RS 200's this year... Also you would have expect to see somebody in one of the old Fiesta's... |

Some nice video without music to spoil!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwlQtcLq44w Also note the Veloster! And the engine of Dayraut seems to be running better than the Fiesta's did... |

This years event didn't seem to get as much coverage in the build up for some reason, that's an impressive time by "Monster" though isn't it? I'll have to have a look and see if I can find any photos and more footage.

I think the extra tar content helped Tajima's times.
Also Mach One were definately planning on going but maybe money stopped them. there is Youtuve footage of Rennmy testing teh RS200 at Blyton from 2011, so maybe they just ran short of cash |

I know paved to the top is sacrilegious but it leads to me dream what chassis would be employed to run Pike's in the future. Especially seeing the Hyundai 'LMP' they ran this year. All the Lola and other club prototypes that could probably have some other engines installed out there from old LMS/ALMS and IMSA Lites teams that could fy up the mountain. Plus I would LOVE for Turn 10 to take FM4's designers up to map the course and let us tear up the hill in all kinds of track cars. Would be hard to make the thin air in the game but I'm sure they could develop some kind of scripting for it.

When people wail about Pikes Peak being paved, I always point them to this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd1i1ZP3Aec Things might change, but then they always do. For those paranoid about excessive speed, the altitude will suck that dry. If you ever go, don't make the mistake I did and chug down Coca Cola at 12500 feet. At that altitude the C02 gas expanded in my stomach quite radically and I had it coming out both ends in spectacular style. Thank god for a good friend to help me out and a portopotty otherwise it would have been quite the crowd pleaser. Or not. Anyways it is definitely worth going at least once in your life. |

European hillclimbs are an even better kept secret than rallycross. You can see every kind of car there, sportscars, formula cars up to F3000, WRCs/S2000, GTs, DTM, Group B, Silhouettes, etc. Top speeds are well over 235kph at some tracks. Average speeds of more than 150kph aren't uncommon... If you ever have the chance to visit a top event in Italy or France don't hesitate!
As someone from maybe the flattest country in the world I can only see them once or twice a year max, but it never disappoints! |
