Will Hoy winning the title in 1992???
Who thinks Will Hoy could have won the title in 1992? In the championship finale at Silverstone, Hoy thrust himself into fourth place (which was enough to win) and somehow let John Cleland and Tim Harvey catch up to him. Only due to the infamous move that Steve Soper did on John Cleland did Harvey win the title. Anyway, had Hoy not been passed, does anyone think he could have won? I do. Opinions please.

Not possible,
I remember in a programme a few years ago, Tim was talking about 1992 and he mentioned that three drivers went into that race with a chance of winning; Soper, Cleland and himself |

I could have swore it was Harvey, Cleland and Hoy, not Soper.

I think it was maybe Hoy, the words "Soper" and "Ninety-two" just seem to stick in my mind.....

Even if he was ahead of Harvey, Tim had ABS brakes on the Beemer which allowed for demon late braking.

Did Soper use that as an excuse for taking out JC?

It was a battered BMW that took out JC.

It wasn't Gravett's fault that he hit an errant Beemer in the middle of the track. But i would say that it was Robb's fault for punting off Matt Neal in his nice new car.

guys, the whole point of this topic was to see who thought Will Hoy could have won the championship in 1992. also, who was the privateers champ from 1991?

There was no privateers championship in 1991. It didn't come about until Toca took over in 1992. Although Vic Lee Motorsport wasn't a works team, it still took Hoy to the title. It got works status for 1992 however and was called M Team VLM.
As for the Rimstock BMW of Matt Neal. The Toca Cup for Privateers was already won by James Kaye and i think Matt was trying out his new car for 1993. |

Hmm that doesn't sound right, because in an interview with Matt Neal on the 93 review video he says that he had a chance to win but "was hit by a low flying peugeot!" Thanks for the info.
