Having worked for a Japanese company for over a decade, such practices are quite normal. I could tell you stories of blatent plajorism that would make your eyes water. What Toyota did do was make a better job of the engine than Ford/Cosworth - your second wife is better than your first one That said AE86 is/was a fantastic machine. Let's not forget it rewrote the 1600cc class of touring car racing and rallying worldwide and is arguably the greatest Group A car there was. Boy did it make a racket though.

Excellent pics Eirca, some are more familair to us than others, obviously, but nonetheless always good to have some images to support the discussions.

Off topic briefly, i'm interested in the Macau shots (head on of the grid) in '84 and '85. The one with Corollas following the the Volvo's and Starions off. This shot shows a couple of Capris (decribed in Autosport at the time as of 'dubious vintage'!!).

One of them is clearly red and has what appears to be a 3 word windscreen visor/sticker. I'm wondering if it's an old Gordon Spice Car?

Maybe i'll copy this post into the CC Capri thread.

I need to speed up on the internet, cant edit posts!! agh well its getting my post count up.
On my way from Ireland to Australia I went to Hong Kong & Macau, the track it beautiful, pity I was there a week after the racing!
The museum had some beautiful machinery, pics of which I have recently lost after beer somehow spilt all over my laptop.
There was no information what so-ever to be attained at the museum as the security staff knew nothing about the cars & there was no guide there???? crazy.
I did manage to salvage a few pics of this ae86, but the info seems a little odd.

Some great stuff here- the Japanese and Macau Corollas have always been a bit of a mystery to me as we didn't hear much about them in the UK- I have got a model kit (Fujimi 1/25 scale- fairly crude as it seems to be designed to take a motor) of the Object T/Trampio car- seem to remember there being a pair of these with different versions of the striped livery- one blue, the other green

As a teenager i built the kit of the green striped car. I found it a while ago while cleaning out my wardrobe. I'm now tempted to repaint it in the colours of my own car.

Yes, it's the green-striped version I've got buried somewhere in the loft- As I remember (and slightly off-topic) they did a fair range of Group A tourers, though to nothing like the same quality as Tamiya's 635CSI and Honda Civic, or the Hasegawa TWR XJS. I've got the Object T Corolla, a Starion, a 325i and M3 stashed away somewhere...One of the American manufacturers (Monogram or AMT?) also did a Mk3 Ford Escort that although in roadgoing XR3 guise, also came with a set of transfers for a BTCC Datapost RS1600i. Better stop before this turns into the 'plastic kits of Group A cars thread....

If you include the Grp A rally cars, you will be opening a very large can of worms.

A Japanese driver/car competing in the Australian 2GO rally in 1984.

And then Wayne Bell's Japanese Connection car at Bega NSW in 1987.

And I could keep going.

.....so I guess this is the same year.
That 'Willis Faber' sponsorship doesn't ring any bells and I can't quite make out the drivers' name on the door- There's what looks like a 'Central BMW' sunstrip on the screen, and the location looks as if it might be Birmingham. Weren't 'Central BMW' associated with Nick Whale? I won't swear to it, but I think he did Birmingham '88 in a Hodgetts Corolla?

Good thinking KA, I was baffled about this one, but the surroundings certainly look like the fruit and veg market (OK and meat, it says 'poultry' above the car) that was used as the Touring Car paddock. I'd certainly agree with your Nick Whale connection too...

Yes, definitely the Wholesale/Livestock Market area in Birmingham which was used as the support race paddock.

Nick Whale's name is on the door of that green Corolla too by looks of it?

I took a few shots at the B'ham meetings and posted some in other threads (eg Chatfields ex Bastos Rover leaving that Paddock area in 1987). I'm sure I had one of Mike O Brien's Commodore but have never found it!!
