Those comments by Alonso were made mid November last year if I'm not mistaken.

I think there has been some talk of the lack of rear downforce on the current Red Bull car(no blown diffuser) - and how Vettel isn't used to that. It's one of the things suggested for his current woes. Even though - it's still a bit too early to write Fingerman off yet. The Red Bull seems to have a decent chassis and good aero(Mr. Newey) - it's just the engine that is a bit too weak at the moment. I suspect that by the middle of the season it might be back up on top of the pile.

Seems Vettel's taken the 'forgotten how to drive' moniker seriously. He's out practicing with Tonykart today in Lonato.

It's fair to say he's exceeded most of our expectations. I thought he'd be better than Webber was in his final days, though, but hadn't expected he'd have what is seemingly the upper hand at this point.

I get the sense that we'll see a Vettel resurgence though and wouldn't even count him out for the title if Hamilton and Rosberg "take points off each other".

It sounds like Red Bull found a fault with Vettel's RB10 that was swapped out this past weekend. When they measured the old chassis that was used for the first 4 races they found it to be warped. It is suspected that this produced unpredictable behavior when trail braking, causing Vettel to back up the corner, ruining corner exit speeds. It is also being blamed for excessive tire deg.

It always confuses how the teams have such advanced testing kit, and they don't seem to be able to pick up a cracked or warped chassis.

Sounds like an airfix kit stuck together by a 7 year old newby, not an advanced carbon fiber monocoque built by the best craftsmen in the world in a jig!

This has to stick out like a sore thumb on the testing and measuring rigs!

Any ideas?

I would imagine that the warping was slight, but Vettel did look much improved in Spain, especially under braking during those passes.

If he had done something that created a crack or problem and it wasn't picked up it could be a reasonably possible scenario , or if there had been an inherent fault in the manufacturing or curing process that went unnoticed it is possible because its is easy to assume that if it looks right, measures right, it must be right.

You're right... it is very sloppy. I guess it may have slipped through the cracks [pardon the pun] with all the logisitcs issues of the fly aways. It's not the first time this kind of thing has happened at Red Bull or other teams though.
