2011 Australian F3

Didn't even know this had been happening after the quiet off-season. Only 8 cars on the grid, not good for Australian single-seaters.

James Winslow took both race wins at Winton last weekend.

Results:
http://www.formula3.com.au/results2.asp?id=111wint

Series standings (Gold star):

1. James Winslow - 25
2. Bryce Moore - 17
3. Chris Gilmour - 16
etc

James Winslow? The same Winslow as in Indy Lights?

Quite interesting reading one of the articles that Bryce Moore seems to be having some support from an ex Brit F3 engineer.

MKII - yes Bryce has been receiving a helping hand from Bruce Jenkins who came from Hi-Tech racing in British F3. He has since moved into the Team Managers role with Jonathan Webb in V8 supercars.

There has also been some good news of late! There is a Mygale in the country that will be having its first run at the next round at Eastern Creek. But likely to be the most exciting announcement is that F3 will be racing at Bathurst in 2012! Macau GP Aussie style!

Only ten cars at Darwin but they put on some great, clean (mostly) racing with about six real winning contenders.

I think F3 is at last on a steady upward trend in Australia!

Being on the V8 program (and putting on a good show) and a race at Bathurst next year should make the category more attractive to young drivers who would otherwise be wasting their funds on the development series for V8s.

Get along to Eastern Creek for the next Round which should be a great meeting for lovers of proper racing cars with an Australia FF Round on as well.

Bathurst is interesting, just a shame there is so much of a gap between the V8s & Macau/Korea - a support race for the 1000 tied in with the international cars being down that way (relatively speaking) could make something really special.

Local F3 doesn't have enough cars to make it look good & international runners are not going to travel all that way for 1 race.

If the Bathurst race got included in an International Cup or something like that then i'll bet plenty of Euro teams would go!!

It might be good to have it as part of an Intercontinental cup like they had about 20 years ago along with Macau and Fuji, that way the Japanese teams would also enter and at the same time it would give F3 in Australia a bit of a boost in coverage.

Round 4, Race 1 at Morgan Park (Queensland) today: Seven cars started and five finished.

Get the screens, CAMS, and put this pathetic series out of its misery.

That or put some tin top series out of its misery and give Australia some kind of open wheel series!

Which "some tin top series" do you mean? And 'who' do you suggest should take that action?

Every motor racing series survives or perishes on its merits, of which the Australian F3 series has very few judging by the paltry competitor turn-outs and public indifference in recent years.

Even CAMS can't see the elephant in the room.

Well someone likes it and believes in it Morris otherwise it wouldn't continue!

If the will is there, and the governing bodies are happy for it to carry on then where's the problem?

I don't really care to be honest. Just one real open wheel category, which F3 fits, would be great.

And it will survive. It is surviving at the moment and CAMS will do what CAMS does and while the cheques and safety are all a-ok, the series will continue.

Meanwhile a once-meaningful title, the Gold Star, remains tarnished by single-digit fields (seven cars at Sandown this weekend) driven mostly by midfielders.

Anyone who thinks that this is a meaningful national championship is delusionary.

Strange that the F3 cheer squad hasn't rushed to anser this one.

Anywhere between $250,000-$500,000 depending on the quality of the team and your haggling ability.

Terry, how do know that " ... people have PM'ed alias99."? After all, the first initial of PM stands for "private"!

If my estimate is " ... well wide of the mark", it's time for you to put up or shut up. How much is Harvest Motorsport asking for a season in Australian F3?
